About the team
Join our Legal team at V/Line and be part of a collaborative and supportive team that promote career growth and development. You will be working with a high performing team and have exposure to large scale legal matters and projects.
About the role
This role will help V/Line to make informed strategic choices within an acceptable legal risk profile by understanding pressure points, strategy and objectives and effectively communicating the legal risks and issues involved to internal clients.
Key accountabilities include:
Providing legal advice to various functions within V/Line.
Supporting the General Counsel and Principal Lawyers in management of legal issues.
Assisting the Corporate Governance function in handling and responding to requests for legal services from internal clients.
Providing legal advice on a broad variety of legal issues including general commercial contractual matters, construction, procurement, litigation, OHS, safety regulation, environmental, employment, and administrative law.
Undertaking legal research, interpreting applicable laws and keeping abreast of changes in the law.
Supporting the development of governance frameworks across the business.
About you
The successful candidate is adaptable to changes and has a strong ability to manage their work effectively in a time pressure environment. You are a team player who can collaborate well with others, and work autonomously when required. You are enthusiastic about learning and ready to dive in and remain open to new opportunities!
The ideal candidate will possess:
Tertiary qualifications in Law: LLB
Current Victorian Practising Certificate (or ability to obtain one prior to commencement).
Ability to work on concurrent and diverse matters.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to multitask and priorities effectively.
Demonstrated alignment to V/Line’s values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.
Desirable
Post admission in-house legal experience will be well regarded.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Understanding of terms and concepts relevant to the rail industry or the public sector.
