The University of Newcastle’s Student Living Support Team is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a Student Living Health and Wellbeing Coordinator. The Student Living Support Team is responsible for providing a positive and vibrant on-campus residential community to foster academic, social and personal growth of residential students.

As the Student Living Health and Wellbeing Coordinator, you will be responsible for providing high quality clinical support to the business of Student Living, ensuring timely and effective welfare support and services to University of Newcastle Student Living residents. You will work closely with students to promote their overall wellbeing and personal development, providing support and care on matters affecting both academic performance, as well as living out of home and personal well-being.

This Fixed Term position is full time until June 2024 at a HEW8 Higher Education Level and will be located at the Callaghan Campus (Awabakal and Worimi land).

You will inspire us with your ability to work autonomously to manage a diverse caseload, use sound judgement and build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

About the Unit

The domain of Student Experience and Administration offers holistic approach to the student experience. Staff in this domain work to connect students to the support and services they need through a streamlined approach to administrative processes and a range of student engagement initiatives.

The Student Wellbeing unit is tasked with ensuring that students have access to an integrated and coordinated program of support and risk management for non-academic matters. The focus of this unit is on providing health, wellbeing, and mental health services and support for students, along with support for AccessAbility and Equity initiatives to help students navigate a smooth and successful journey through their studies

  1. Effective process to triage and prioritise high volume and variety of requests/demands
  2. Relevant training and substantial experience in evidence-based crisis management or demonstrated high level clinical skills and experience in dealing effectively with people in crisis
  3. Extensive experience in youth mental health including comprehensive assessment and knowledge of referral pathways.
  4. Demonstrated experience working both independently and in a team environment, with the ability to build relationships and engage in effective teamwork.
