About the Role

Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of the following UK/ROI sites, which includes but is not limited to the following:- Dublin, Glasgow, Perth or Aberdeen.

Salary: £63,000 - £94,400 / €88,600 - €132,800 + car / allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

We have a strong pipeline of low carbon projects in SSE Thermal and have projects across development, construction and operations - Enabling a Net Zero Future | SSE Thermal.

We're looking for experienced Procurement & Commercial Managers to join our Thermal Procurement and Commercial team to support the development project pipeline opportunities in the UK/ROI to develop the design, and delivery of commercially successful strategies.

The role of the Procurement & Commercial Manager can encompass projects across all stages of the development process from inception of the project right through to hand over of completed projects to the Operation and Maintenance teams. For these roles, the Procurement & Commercial Manager would either be involved in projects from inception to main construction contract award or managing awarded contracts through to Completion and handover to Operations.

You'll have the opportunity to use your experience to support the wider project team on a wide range of procurement and commercial issues to challenge yourself through dealing first hand with the complexities of large-scale projects and also play a significant role in delivering low carbon solutions in the drive for a net zero carbon future.

What do you need?

To be successful in this role we are looking for candidates with working knowledge of the relevant conditions of contract which include NEC, FIDIC, LOGIC or IChemE.

We are looking for individuals who are degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification and may either have, or be working towards, professional membership of a relevant technical or professional body, for example the MRICS, MCIARB.

We would also love you to have;

- Demonstrable experience of managing Procurement & Commercial negotiations and delivery for large projects (>£50m) including: Detailed understanding of commercial value drivers within large and complex business cases.

- Understanding of the markets, support contracts, regions, commodities and services for the Thermal business, with previous experience in a multifaceted business with an understanding of supply chain concepts and how to improve them.

- Developing robust pricing assumptions, strong commercial & contract strategies to enhance business case opportunities for new and existing markets.

- Experience in the management of all procurement activities required on single large infrastructure projects, including supply chain engagement, procurement of support service contracts for engineering and consenting, negotiation of commercial and contract terms for third party contracts.

- Experience in the creation of Development and Capital expenditure estimates for project(s), monthly cost reporting and forecasting and supporting budget setting. Cost and budget management via regular cost reporting and ensuring change management procedures are adhered to.

- Ability to provide robust post contract commercial management services which will support the project goals and objectives including negotiating/agreeing compensation events and ensuring that the core principles of the Commercial Manual are being implemented.

- Demonstrable experience and competency on all cost management issues including cost reporting, forecasting, accrual management and supply chain payment.
