About the Role
Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK sites, which includes but is not limited to:- Glasgow, Perth, Reading, London.
Salary: circa £33,000 UK + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.
Start date: September, 2024
Working Pattern: Full Time | Flexible working options available
Travel Requirements: as part of this role, you may be required to travel to another office location or relocate to another office for a period of time, depending on business need and in order to give you breadth of experience (covered by our expense policy). This will be discussed with you during the selection process.
What is the Role?
As a Trainee Solicitor you'll support on some of the most exciting energy projects in the world, and we have up to 4 new opportunities for a Trainee Solicitor to join our General Counsel Team. Our bespoke training contract meets the requirements to complete a two-year, Law Society regulated, legal training contract.
From the moment you join you'll benefit from specialised training and be closely supported and mentored by our friendly team. We have a variety of specialisms within our team covering many areas of law such as: commercial, company, energy, property, construction, disputes and litigation, data protection, and competition and regulatory. Our four-seat training contract will provide you with exposure to diverse areas of law and working across the varied SSE businesses, as well as the opportunity to broaden your experience by spending your third seat with one of SSE's legal panel firms.
You'll provide legal advice and support to the SSE Group to ensure legal compliance, and help the group to understand, minimise and mitigate legal risks across its operations. You'll be involved in document drafting, conducting due diligence, property and consenting, disputes, projects client meetings and negotiation. As well as gaining exposure to real work, you'll develop the following skills and expertise:
- Core knowledge and understanding of the law and risks applicable to the SSE Group.
- Intellectual, analytical and problem-solving; transactional and dispute resolution.
- Legal, professional and client relationship knowledge; personal development.
- Work management and professional values, behaviours, attitudes, and ethics.
What do I need?
To be considered for the position of Trainee Solicitor, we would love you to have:
LLB or equivalent qualification plus Legal Practicing Certificate (LPC), Diploma, or Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE), or set to achieve this in 2024. Your qualification must enable you to undertake a legal training contract under the Scottish or English Law Society rules.
- Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- The ability to build relationships and engage with professionals and colleagues.
- The ability to work alone or as part of a team, to self-motivate and to effectively manage and prioritise a broad and large workload.
- Excellent organisational and timekeeping skills.
