What does this role entail?
Reporting into the Head of Transport, this position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the company’s 3PL & primary freight transport activities. This role ensures the efficient, cost-effective, and timely delivery of goods while maintaining compliance with all safety, legal, and regulatory requirements. The 3PL & Primary Freight Lead will look for synergies within the transport network and work with relevant parties to optimise routes, manage budgets, and maintain high customer satisfaction.

What does a day in the life of the 3PL & Primary Freight Lead look like?

  • Ensure compliance with transport regulations, health and safety policies, and environmental standards.
  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor transportation logistics and fleet operations.
  • Optimise delivery routes to maximize efficiency, reduce kilometres travelled and labour costs.
  • Liaise with clients, suppliers, and internal departments to ensure service expectations are met.
  • Monitor KPIs and generate performance reports for senior management.
  • Recruit, train, and manage transport staff including support personnel within the Distribution Centres.
  • Handle incident investigations, disciplinary actions, and customer complaints as needed.
  • Implement and manage Transport Management Systems (TMS) and other logistics software.

What do I need to bring to this role?

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the logistics industry, specifically in route planning and optimisation
  • Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience directly managing 3rd party logistics partnerships
  • Experience in creating optimised route plans using routing software or other tools.
  • Highly developed organisational and planning skills
  • Proficiency in using logistics software and tools.
  • Leadership skills, including coaching, encouraging motivation and empowerment, and establishing clear goals
