About us
As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

Purpose of the role
The Tactical Training unit delivers innovative tactical and specialist training to internal and external stakeholders in a safe controlled environment. The main areas of responsibility includes:
- managing and overseeing operational training delivery at the Live Fire Campus and Operational Training Facilities in Brisbane and Townsville, providing high quality preventative and responsive fire and rescue services and quality training outcomes for internal and external clients whilst reinforcing the philosophy of ZEROharm
- managing, developing and reviewing training scenarios in conjunction with key stakeholders, clients and other agency representatives to ensure program development and delivery is conducted in an effective and efficient manner and that current and future client and community needs are met.
The role of the Safety Pad Operator is to assist the Staff Development Officers with tasks and functions associated with the effective operations and maintenance of the fire pad and operational training facility to enable a safe and serviceable environment for the delivery of high quality fire and rescue training products and services.
Key requirements
Mandatory requirements
- Applicants must possess and provide evidence of a fork lift license.
Highly desirable requirements
- A medium rigid licence is desirable but not essential to the role of the position.
Your key accountabilities
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
- Undertake maintenance of training props and personal protective equipment, including preventative maintenance on nominated equipment and systems.
- Ensure comprehensive workplace health and safety procedures associated with an industrial environment to ensure the health and safety of training participants.
- Undertake designated functions such as fuel controller or breathing apparatus controller in a team environment responsible for delivering training sessions.
- Organise and track items of training and personal protective equipment for laundering, service and repair.
- Liaise with supervisors to maintain adequate stock levels for training purposes and participate in annual stocktakes.
- Organise, bulk fuel readings, orders, safe delivery bulk fuels as required.
- Liaise with supervisors to operate the live fire campus environmental waste water system including water sampling, pumping and liaising with other agencies under organisational guidelines for environmental waste water management.
- Undertake operations of the transportation of bulk supplies around the site, including on-going training relevant to the position.
