Role Description

LV=GI have an exciting new opportunity for a Motor Portfolio Underwriting Manager to join our family of talented people in the Underwriting Team. The role we be based at LV=GI Bournemouth, Frizzell House, Bournemouth BH1 2NF or LV=GI Croydon, 69, Park Lane, Croydon, CR9 1BG.

As the Underwriting Manager you will contribute towards delivery of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through the monitoring of account performance, control of underwriting standards, business development activity and ensuring that business written is done so in a technically excellent manner, adhering to underwriting authority and standards.

Your focus:

  • Monitors the performance of accounts and lines of business within the business unit, identifying under and over performance, implementing remedial and opportunity actions as appropriate.

  • Delivers KPI targets across portfolios worked upon to deliver the high level line of business strategies and understands Account Management principles and the impact of portfolio changes or individual cases on the account.

  • Adheres to Underwriting Authority and understands the impact portfolio or case decisions have on Profit and Loss and the achievement of plan.

  • Makes important Commercial business decisions when they are required to support profitable development of supplier relationships, supporting the distribution segmentation strategy and delivery of plan. Provides support to stakeholders on business development activities.

  • Liaises with all other appropriate internal parties including Sales and Distribution, Pricing, Claims and Operations and represents the Company at internal and external forums.

  • Ensuring that the team systematically analyses MI, utilise data, researches market developments and reviews customer feedback in order to make proposals to:

  • Develop products to maintain competitiveness and to meet customer expectations.

  • Optimise the underwriting footprint across distribution channels to promote profitable growth and diversification.

  • Improve systems and/or processes to enhance customer experience, risk controls and efficiency.

  • Enhance policy documents and the customer journey, ensuring accuracy, clarity, relevance and ease of understanding.

About you

To be successful for the role you will have previous experience of working within a general insurer environment with responsibility for top and bottom line performance of a portfolio or suite of portfolios.

You will have:

  • An in-depth understanding of the make-up of policy wordings, clauses and non-standard covers available and their implications with an ability to convey that understanding.

  • Able to identify cover and hazards influencing the acceptance, pricing or terms applicable to a risk and apply risk management techniques and appropriate underwriting rules to ensure sufficient breadth of risks is available to the Company.

  • Understanding of the skills and tools required for effective Underwriting and has the ability to use these key skills to underwrite risks profitably.

  • Understands causes and costs of claims and can apply appropriate risk management tools to mitigate loss.

  • In-depth understanding of relevant legislation and its application by Line of Business.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of Underwriting skills required to actively contribute to segmentation and product development activities.

  • Understanding of Treaty and facultative reinsurance programmes and how facultative reinsurance can be used to widen risk acceptance or control exposure.

  • Ability to interpret statistical data, including identification of trends, influences and anomalies on a case-by-case and local account basis.

  • Full working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • High level Underwriting Authority in Line of Business achieved or being worked towards.

Qualifications:

  • Strong financial acumen including Financial Principles and Pricing Techniques completed or working towards.

  • Completion of ACII qualification or appropriate industry experience desirable.

  • Understanding of Project Management within the Company.

As a hybrid worker you will be in the office between 2 and 16 days per month depending on individual and business need. This will be discussed at interview stage.
