Our Business:

The Global Special Situations (GSS) group continues to experience strong growth and success, so it is looking to expand the analyst research team. GSS targets Event Driven, Stressed, Special Situations and Distressed opportunities (in US and EMEA) across the credit spectrum that can deliver strong asset level returns. GSS is part of JPMorgan Asset Management’s Alternatives division which has over $170Bn under management.

Opportunity:

The opportunity is to join the situational research team at the Associate level.

Requirements:

The business is seeking a UK (London) based analyst with financial valuation and credit analysis experience. European language skills would be accretive, although not a necessity. The candidate is expected to have direct investing experience that is relevant (buy side credit analyst or bank sell side analyst). Candidates currently working in investment banking (M&A or leveraged finance preferred) will also be considered. All candidates are expected to have had formal valuation or leveraged finance training.

The candidate must be a self-starter who is able to work independently and is also comfortable being part of a larger team. The candidate will work with all members of the team both in London and NY (CIOs, other analysts, COO/middle office team) to collaborate on a finished product to drive risk decisions, source investing ideas as well as analysis required for the fund raising of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The analyst will draw upon their network and experience to assist with due diligence (including the projection of future financial performance, and analysis of industry trends) and to determine an appropriate valuation for each credit
  • The analyst is expected to maintain a strong network among a wide range of market counterparts including legal, financial and restructuring advisors, banks and companies
  • Once assigned a credit, the analyst will be expected to maintain financial reporting models (as new numbers are released) and be familiar with each credit’s governing Credit Agreement, Bond Indentures and contractual obligations in order to analyze financial performance and identify investment opportunities
  • The analyst will manage inventory positions for all proposed changes to credits including amendments, waivers and repricing, as well as permanent “re-underwrite” of the credit following business or pricing developments
  • Preparation of other ad hoc support materials/presentations to the business
  • Ensure that all activities are conducted in adherence with the relevant JPMAM / GSS policies and procedures as well as with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements
  • Support business development, marketing and control initiatives as may be required from time to time by the GSS Co-CIOs

Essential Skills:

  • Valuation and credit analysis training, including strong knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint
  • Mature personality to enable various direct company and investor interaction
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
