Principal Program Manager

Are you an outstanding program manager who is looking to join a team at the heart of Expedia's business? Expedia Checkout Experience Engineering team leads the customer experience projects across all brands (Brand Expedia,Hotels.com) along with a Strategic Initiatives to transform the technical stack to build a scalable and modular experience. We are internal consultants that thrive in ambiguity and solving complex problems.

The Checkout Experience Engineering team works across and interacts with cross functional and domain teams within Expedia Group to deliver large, complex technology initiatives and also experience optimizations. As the Principal Program Manager, you will play a meaningful role leading and supporting the efforts across the team and broader EG. You will shape the future of Expedia Checkout by bringing a blend of product, strategy, and program management competencies to our product and technology portfolio.

This role inherently works across various functions - you will collaborate across multiple teams/divisions/locations to solve problems, learn fast and drive outcomes.

Our Principal Technical Product Managers (TPMs) are independent, creative, and ambitious. They love solving problems that involve a diverse set of teams. Our TPMs know how to motivate team members to drive cross- organizational initiatives forward, delving into details as necessary and delegating responsibly

What you’ll do:

  • Lead large, long-range initiatives while delivering value incrementally by operating in an agile, rapid development environment

  • Operate effectively within the organization's formal and informal structures by building relationships across departments and understanding the roles and perspectives of diverse partner groups

  • Work across team boundaries with leaders and program managers of multiple products or efforts to appropriately prioritize work to gain alignment with overall initiative, organization, and company goals

  • Actively identify and drive resolution on cross-team issues, scope changes, resource constraints, and other impediments

Who you are:

  • High degree of proficiency with project/program management, including driving discussions to scope effort and schedule, identifying and mitigating risks, supervising dependencies and milestones, and appropriately communicating overall project status

  • Proven ability to turn business requirements into user stories, epics, and technical requirements

  • Consistently able to drive and own multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and prioritize engineering decisions for outcomes.

  • Proven ability to understand and discuss technical concepts, manage trade-offs and evaluate opportunistic new ideas with internal and external partners.

  • Able to understand both the fine details and the bigger picture of a project to keep progress on track

  • Partner with multiple teams to drive high level solutions and resolve issues, move project progress forward and remove barriers, understanding when to empower and when to become deeply involved.

  • Ability to keep abreast of the progress of multiple tracks within a program or across the department; coach project managers (or other program managers) to adjust priorities or timelines as needed.

  • Keen eye for identification of improvements to the product development lifecycle across the team and drive efficiency gains.

  • Experience applying Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid methodologies

  • Experience with releases, monitoring and hands on troubleshooting of issues

  • Identify and anticipate risks and handle appropriately, taking calculated risks as appropriate that are measured and monitored to grow and benefit the organization

  • Define and maintain processes for the team to deliver work on time, continually looking for and finding new ways to improve these processes

  • Curious, open to new challenges, innovative, creative, self-directed and a collaborative teammate that thrives with continuous process improvement

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results by working across subject areas and organizational boundaries

  • Excellent influencing and relationship-building skills as well as experience working with senior management

  • Experience working cross-culturally and ability to adapt personal style to different environments

  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with all levels within Expedia Group to ensure visibility of progress, risks and risk mitigation, and garner support for changes in scope, schedule, and/or budget

  • Strong strategic and critical thinking skills; ability to see the “big picture” while also diving into details when needed

  • Creative decision-maker who can work independently and apply quantitative analyses to support tradeoff decisions

  • Strong program planning skills with experience structuring large initiatives in effective and meaningful ways

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent

  • 10+ years of related experience in a world-class consulting firm, technology platform product management and/or large strategic program management

  • Experience in an eCommerce environment, is a plus

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $207,500 to $290,500. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $332,000, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
