The Commercial Director, Utilities is a key leadership role in the New Business & Commercial team. The role is accountable for leading a team to provide commercial, contractual and risk management expertise to enhance business performance and support sustainable customer relationships. The role is a key contributor to assist in the development and implementation of the Downer Utilities Australia business strategy and will also support the wider strategic and commercial initiatives.

Reporting to the General Manager - New Business & Commercial the Commercial Director, Utilities is responsible for both upstream (customer) and downstream (subcontractor/supplier) commercial and contractual advice to the Utilities business, across both program and projects work. The role also ensures that appropriate commercial arrangements are in place when collaborating with other parts of Downer. Position can be based in either Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane.

ABOUT YOU

• Leading a team of Commercial Managers to optimise commercial outcomes and mitigate risk for Downer Utilities Australia
• Providing commercial and contractual expertise to improve the business performance of Downer Utilities Australia
• Working with other New Business & Commercial Leadership team leaders to promote and lead in the development of governance frameworks, consistency and alignment to Downer’s corporate standards
• A tertiary qualification in a related discipline, e.g. law, finance, commercial, operations management
• Excellent people leadership skills including a total commitment to creating a Zero Harm workplace and adherence to the Downer Standard
• A strong customer focus including the ability to identify solutions that add customer value and deliver return straight to the bottom line
• Demonstrable and successful senior commercial management experience / capability in a similar business environment.
