The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) is looking for a vibrant, highly motivated and driven senior executive to lead the Energy Policy Group and the Strategic Business Innovation Division.

This opportunity is a Senior Executive Service (SES) role for a fixed term, full-time appointment for up to five (5) years.

The position

The Deputy Director General – Coordinator of Energy provides strategic direction and leadership across the energy policy and strategic business innovation functions. With your extensive leadership experience, you will be responsible for actively promoting strategies, policies and systems that provide strategic direction, and contribute to the achievement of corporate objectives and outcomes.

As a member of the Corporate Executive team, this role is responsible for:

  • Providing support to the Director General and strategic leadership and direction across the energy policy and strategic business innovation functions to develop and implement policy options.
  • Carrying out the statutory powers and functions of the Coordinator of Energy in the Department as set out in Energy Coordination Act 1994 including the management of gas, liquid fuel and electricity supply disruptions.
  • Leading teams of senior officers working on the scoping, implementation and monitoring of energy, financial and economic policy initiatives and public sector reform and business transformation.
  • Driving strategic reform and developing policies, strategies and plans to ensure departmental operational objectives are met by focusing on whole-of-department strategic capability.

This position is located in Perth CBD.
