Job Description

The Opportunity

We have an opportunity available for a Scientist in the In vivo Pharmacology Group at CSL’s Melbourne-based research operation. The In vivo Pharmacology Group evaluates and understands the mechanism of action of protein-based therapeutics in animal models of disease.

You will assist with evaluating, establishing, developing, and performing animal models of respiratory disease and associated complications for conducting proof-of-concept and proof-of-mechanism studies. You will work with an extended team across different areas within CSL and external collaborations.

Reporting to the Senior Scientist within the Research Department at CSL’s Bio21 site, you will:

  • Help conduct proof-of-concept in vivo studies to create data packages to support the development of selected drug candidates;
  • Help conduct in vivo and in vitro experiments to understand the mechanism of action of selected drug candidates;
  • Perform data analysis using spreadsheet, graphic/statistical platforms and flow cytometry software (Prism, FlowJo);
  • Prepare experimental protocols, scientific reports and SOPs;
  • Follow animal ethics guidelines;
  • Contribute to the maintenance of research resources on-site;
  • Ensure documentation and recording of all laboratory notes and research about projects is up to date, secure and accessible observing Electronic Laboratory Notebook guidelines;

Your experience:

  • B.Sc. degree with Honours in relevant discipline (e.g. respiratory or immunology) with experience in relevant industry and/or academic environments;
  • Experience with animal models of disease is necessary , including animal handling, anaesthesia and surgery/dissection skills. Experience with respiratory and/or immunological mouse models will be viewed especially favourably;
  • Experience with at least two of the following in vitro assays: ELISA, protein activity assays, Luminex arrays, histology, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry;
  • Ability in assay design, data analysis, and statistical analyses with good knowledge of software packages:,Graphpad Prism. Experience with flow cytometry and imaging software is advantageous but not essential (e.g. FlowJo, Fiji);
