Good things start here

This could be the very first step towards an exciting new career with us – a fresh beginning. At the Coles Group, these are moments we live for.

Starting good things is what drives our purpose: to sustainably feed all Australians so they can lead healthier, happier lives. With a team of 120,000 people and an iconic portfolio of Australia’s most trusted brands, we’re perfectly positioned to turn a promising start into a whole lot more.

Head of Quality Engineering and Environments (QE&E)

We’re one of Australia’s most iconic and trusted businesses. With over 120,000 people working across more than 2,500 retail outlets, we provide fresh food, groceries, general merchandise, liquor and fuel to millions of people every week. We’re proud of our top 30 listing on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX). But we’re even prouder of the way we support our team, suppliers and the broader community – making life easier for each other and our customers.

As the way we shop continues to evolve, our Digital team keeps us at the cutting edge. Driven by our innovative, inclusive and forward-thinking culture, we’re constantly looking at ways to reinvent the shopping experience for our customers and build the next generation of digital retailing.

The Role

As the Head of Quality Engineering and Environments (QE&E), your role is to lead the establishment of Coles’ Enterprise Testing and Quality / Performance Engineering practice, centralising and standardising testing and quality assurance across all Coles’ projects and product squads. This will ultimately enable continuous, automated testing across all applications, improving test quality and scope whilst reducing effort and cost to execute. You will shape and lead the centralised governance and management of Non-Production environment management, anchored to agreed strategies and performance levels.

Your expertise and guidance will enable Coles to continuously evolve QE&E to incorporate strategies such as AI and ML to drive intelligent testing; synthetic testing to proactively identify issues; leverage SaaS based solutions and toolsets to maximise efficiency; synthetic test data creation and automation to detect defects earlier and avoid use of customer data in testing.

Good things you’ll have:

  • An understanding of the retail value chain and processes
  • Experienced thought leader in Testing Services and Quality Engineering
  • Experience in technology and digital strategy development and delivering transformation in a large organisation
  • Extensive service delivery, vendor and contractual management experience, accountable for managed service contracts of > $20m p.a.
  • Demonstrated ability to build highly effective teams and a culture of experimentation
  • Experience in deploying modern testing tooling
  • Proven experience in successfully delivering complex transformation
  • In-depth expertise in applicable technology processes and technologies
  • Ability to synthesise research in technology and retail trends

To enable Coles to provide a safe environment for its team members, there may be a requirement for you to receive a COVID-19 vaccination before commencing work for Coles at a Coles site, unless you are medically exempt. Given this, you will be required to disclose your COVID-19 vaccination status as part of your application for employment with Coles. You may be required to provide further evidence of vaccination status as part of your application.
