Meaningful Work From Day OneLeads the Jack Daniel’s Site as the Health, Safety and Security subject matter expert. Responsible for all safety related and OSHA compliance activities for the site. Primary site contact for state and federal regulatory agencies for TOSHA and OSHA. Responsible for maintaining current safety policies and implementing new policies/procedures as needed. Responsible for completing all Safety Metrics in a timely manner including maintaining safety programs, training and documentation and completing annual audits. Leads site safety committee and serves a liaison with corporate Global Health and Safety, Security and Risk Management on safety and security related issues. Leads Site Risk Manager and two site occupational nurses to cover responsibility for security, site fire brigade, emergency response, workers’ compensation, DOT compliance, hazardous material compliance and employee wellness.
What You Can Expect
- Provide proactive leadership of all Health and Safety programs at Jack Daniel Distillery
- Ensure 100% compliance of site operations with regulatory OSHA/TOSHA requirements relating to Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, and Ergonomics.
- Responsible for conducting all safety training for Jack Daniel employees including new hire orientation, annual compliance training and PIE train the trainer.
- Develop and implement current and new initiatives, programs and process improvements to reduce injuries and illnesses and continuous improvement programs for overall Health and Safety performance.
- Monitor safety related costs (capital and expense), capital requests, provides input into safety related budgetary items, tracks performance to plan and prepares reports and presentations on costs associated with safety programs and metrics.
- Responsible for all safety related issues dealing with capital projects as well as maintaining the Contractor Safety Program, including contractor pre qualification, orientation and documentation orientation cards, sign in sheets, and contractor employee list.
- Responsible for the site safety committee. Should lead and promote employee involvement in safety performance and culture.
- Develop and maintain excellent local and state agency relationships.
- Support and conduct Health and Safety compliance assurance and B-F Metrics audits and provide sustainable corrective actions for resolution.
- Conduct and/or validate accident investigations to determine root cause and sustainable solutions utilizing 5whys/7ways in a timely manner.
- Establish proactive Health and Safety culture and reduce risk taking behaviors to prevent accidents in the workplace.
- Manage all safety data and documentation and prepare reports as necessary.
- Support B-F wellness activities to promote workplace employee health.
- In coordination with site occupational nurses, handle local worker compensation claims, issues and disability costs through claims management practices and return to work programs. Work with Corporate Safety Manager for all local claims settlement and case management decisions.
- Ensure site meets the hazardous chemical program requirements and maintain digital chemical approval process using SDS online
- Provide Safety resources for all Jack Daniel Homeplace Properties
- Responsible for emergency calls for injured employees, visitors which include up to 300,000 tourists per year and contractors. Coordinates efforts between JD medical personnel and local EMS.
- Oversight of Security including responsibility for facility security for all JD Lynchburg locations covering approximately 2500 acres and over 180 buildings. This includes 39 contract security guards providing 24/7/365 coverage.
- Oversight of the Site Fire Brigade consisting of 30+ employees led by the Risk Manager who is responsible for fire protection for all Lynchburg based facilities.
- Responsible for safety oversight during four scheduled production shut down periods.
- Perform associated and other duties as required.
We Are Looking For People
Have Bachelor’s degree in Safety or related area and and 10 + years of experience in safety, risk management or related areas in a manufacturing, industrial or related environment.
- Demonstrated written communication skills; ability to compose final draft memos/projects/reports; excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills. Ability to produce finished material from basic instructions.
- Demonstrated oral communication skills with ability to formulate responses to detailed questions in representing company policy/practice within a function, at all levels of the Company.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with all levels of personnel. Excellent interpersonal skills while maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to complete work with speed and accuracy within established timeframe.
- Demonstrated computer ability using various business software.
- Ability to work flexible schedule and or overtime to meet deadline demands.
- Demonstrated and documented knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry.
- Experience in the development, implementation and administration of comprehensive safety and health programs.
- Experience with a security department.
