About the Role

One of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation, Olympic Dam, is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. The local township of Roxby Downs is an active and progressive community offering a variety of modern, well-equipped housing, educational, health, sporting, leisure, shopping and cultural facilities.


Please note this position is based at Olympic Dam, operating on a 7/7 roster pattern roster arrangement, with residential, FIFO (from Adelaide) or DIDO options available.


The Technician CAF Plant will form part of a multi-functional, high performing and diverse team supporting our CAF Plant team to safely and efficiently achieve departmental and BHP Olympic Dam business objectives.


In this role you will:

  • Comply to and consistently follow the standards and procedures designed to enable you to work safely and effectively every day
  • Be a proactive team member and show initiative in all areas of your work
  • Foster effective and productive working relationships across all internal and external stakeholders
  • Be active in identifying and communicating improvements to procedures, processes or plant and participate in problem solving and troubleshooting of plant issues as required
  • Monitor equipment for a safe and efficient operation, report and follow up on all equipment breakdowns, and performance of minor maintenance tasks
  • Conduct an array of Quality Assurance sampling, maintaining all plant and equipment in a safe and clean condition and liaising with electrical and mechanical maintenance personnel
  • Issue the required permits for the safe and timely hand over of equipment and as required, provide operational support through the use of CAF Plant operational control systems
  • Assist with the collection and accurate testing of backfill samples and monitoring sample bath operations to ensure suitable testing conditions as well as recording and reporting of all samples in line with Australian Standards
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping within the work area

About You

  • Proven commitment to look after your own wellbeing and the confidence to speak up when others put themselves in harm’s way
  • Experience in maintaining and monitoring a clean and safe operating environment
  • Understanding of safe work procedures and preparation of equipment for maintenance
  • Ability to interpret and make decisions based on data within a busy environment
  • A proactive team member with confident communication skills
  • Experience in operational mining or quarry environments will be advantageous
  • Experience in technical fault finding
  • Understanding of Quality Assurance and current WHS legislation
  • Previous shift work experience (preferred)
