About the Role

Reporting to the HV & Power Supervisor, your duties as an Engineering Technician Electrical will include:

  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Billiton Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development
  • Undertaking preventative maintenance inspections in accordance with maintenance planning systems and recommending appropriate follow-up action
  • Install, remove, transfer, maintain and/or repair cross arms, pins, insulators, guys, transformer and switch racks and other overhead pole and Underground Residential Distribution equipment using a variety of hand tools, equipment and power tools
  • Installs and removes transformers, including primary and secondary current transformers and self-contained meters; disconnecting switches, circuit breakers and other overhead line and Underground Residential Distribution devices
  • Install street and area lights, working with primary and secondary voltages.
  • Inspects lines, poles and equipment for signs of damage or wear and reports deficiencies
  • Attend to faults on the network as they arise
  • Take responsibility for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the network, including but not limited to; Substation Buildings and Yards, Ring main units, Transformers, HV switching devices, Domestic and Light Industrial Network/Consumer interface equipment
  • High Voltage Switching Program development, checking, execution

About You

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following:

  • Dual trade Linesman / Electrician
  • High level of commitment to Safety and Risk Management
  • Australian C Class Driver’s License (manualWA “A” Grade Electrical License
  • Certificate III in ESI – Power Systems Distribution Overhead – current and up-to-date with yearly refreshers (Rescue etc.)
  • Metrel Testing
  • Proven experience and competency in High Voltage Switching Operations
  • Experience with HV electrical equipment and systems specific to mining and utilities (including diagnosis and fault finding substations, switchgear and transformers)
  • High Risk Work Licence with EWP and Dogging & Rigging endorsements

Location

With this role, you will be fly-in fly-out from Perth to Newman, on a 7/7 roster. You will be working on all Eastern Pilbara Mine and Newman Township sites, operating and maintaining the generation, transmission and distribution electricity network within the Pilbara region.
