About the Role
Our Function, Projects’ Contracts & Procurement (PC&P) is recruiting for the role Manager Rail Technology Project (RTP) Projects’ Contracts & Procurement to be based out of Perth.
The Manager RTP PC&P will lead a team that will support the delivery of the RTP. This support will include: strong and disciplined contract management, responsibility for the development of contract strategies, tendering and award of contracts, commercial project and program planning, prevention and management of claims, and close out of contracts.
In this role you will:
- Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Standards (Our Requirements and Business Critical Documents), Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations;
- Lead an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development;
- Provide leadership, direction, functional expertise, mentoring, coaching and guidance to the Contracts & Procurement team whilst fostering a positive team culture;
- Develop implement and manage strong and disciplined contract management practices;
- Manage multiple stakeholder relationships across PC&P, Procurement, Project Functions, and our contractors;
- Enable world class contract formation and management performance (with an emphasis on strategic and complex construction);
- Maintain appropriate contract health monitoring systems/processes and reporting;
- Apply an understanding of end-to-end Supply Chain to enhance efficiency, drive optimization, and maximize value;
- Evaluate risk profiles, project drivers, and contracting options to inform the development of contracting strategies, and contracts in alignment with project execution strategies;
- Gain support for and negotiate outcomes that achieve mutually beneficial goals;
- Proactively share replicable opportunities across PC&P to drive enterprise level Process Improvement projects;
- Participate and support activities, such that PC&P meets the Business Plan and meets Department and Global KPIs; and
- Determine the underlying cause of problems and evaluates multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solving complex problems.
About You
You will have:
- Extensive years’ experience in commercial and contract management roles in multi-billion dollar capital projects;
- A track record of excellence in contract negotiation and people leadership;
- Tertiary qualifications in Management, Economics, Quantity Surveying, Legal (Construction Law) or related discipline;
- A high degree of business acumen with deep understanding of mega projects execution, risks and strategies;
- Experience in strategic thinking, robust planning and risk management; and
- Strong communication skills to various senior stakeholders – written and verbal. Ability to tailor communications and interactions to a wide variety of stakeholder groups.
You will have and understanding and experience in:
- All complex capital project phases in the field of Contracting & Procurement;
- Managing a project portfolio of spend and interfaces;
- Knowing what creates value and what levers need to be pushed to successfully execute a multi-billion dollar project;
- Multi-million dollar negotiations and deal design skills;
- Claims prevention and management;
- Managing/supervising a team of Contracts & Procurement professionals on a multi-billion dollar project;
- Relating well with people in an engaging style, which quickly enables building of trust and strong relationships with stakeholders;
- Bring people together to gain alignment; and
- Operating in complex and ambiguous environments.
