About the Role

Support regulatory compliance and closure of Arizona sites in accordance with corporate requirements and Closed Sites closure strategy to mitigate risk to the company. Manage care and maintenance as well as closure-related activities to support the site manager. Oversee monitoring programs and related contractors and budget.

  • Execute the site Environmental monitoring plan.
  • Support site manager on cost control and forecasting and risk management for site closure activities.
  • Provides technical support for Site projects and Closure studies
  • Prepare and review technical documents for management review.
  • Field support and management for the initiation and execution of projects and their objectives.
  • Coordinate equipment and resources to support and comply with the long term closure plan (includes regulatory and risk based maintenance, inspection and testing requirements).
  • Manage costs to the provision and budget.
  • Support environmental monitoring programs including storm water management, groundwater, geotechnical and biological monitoring, and other environmental and site tasks.
  • Ensure tailings management and environmental requirements are addressed in all phases of planning and project execution
  • Preparation/review of technical documents and reports.
  • Understand and support compliance with all local legislation and regulations and site procedures including: safety, health, environment and community, also corporate reporting.
  • Risk assess work activities and ensure actions are taken to enable safe work execution and are documented according to BHP’s HSE requirements.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with local community, contractors, consultants and government/regulator stakeholders.
  • Support the identification and implementation of improvement initiatives.
  • Reporting of events and hazards in a timely and accurate manner.

About You

To be a top performer, you will need:

  • Experience working in an environmental or engineering role in a heavy industrial, mining or reclamation work setting.
  • Operating and site field experience including safety, health and environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering
  • Physically fit and capable of work outdoors
  • An ability to interact and communicate professionally with internal staff, site manager, and regulatory agency representatives.
  • Strong computer skills as required to provide technical analysis and designs, reporting detail and/or electronic communication as required.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Knowledge of Arizona and US environmental regulations and best practices
  • Proficient in the MS Office suite
