Deputy Platform Manager

This is a very exciting time for the Royal Navy with two Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers entering service in the next 5 years. BAE Systems will be playing a huge role in the maintenance and upkeep of these state of the art warships, and because of this, we are recruiting for Deputy Platform Managers to be based in Portsmouth Naval Base on a permanent basis.

We are looking for candidates who have excellent problem solving skills, who have the ability to work under a sustained pressurised environment. Excellent communication skills alongside strong stakeholder management experience are key for success in this role. Technically, you will ideally have a project management / engineering background which includes Budget and cost analysis / management, planning & Scheduling, and change and risk management.

Although we are ideally looking for experience within the maritime environment, all industries and backgrounds will be considered.

Your main responsibilities as a Deputy Platform Manager will involve:

Management of timely defect rectification, work packages and/ or small projects, including capability insertion, ensure delivery of budget, schedule, scope, risk management and quality of the sub contract

Issue authorisations for work within the scope of own activity, i.e. release of budget such that work can be undertaken and the contract or project delivered

Involvement in the creation and maintaining of Reporting Packs and delivery of Project reports up through the business chain.

Ensure compliance with all project management tools and techniques, e.g. Life cycle management, risk register, change control, etc.

Assist with decision making for technical issues on resourcing strategy, sub contract and supply chain activity.

In the absence of the Ship Platform Manager, delegated authority to lead in setting and agreeing direction with senior management on behalf of the Project.

Your skills and qualifications:

Project management and planning

Ability to work under a sustained pressurised environment.

Degree/ honours degree or equivalent in a PM/ business/ engineering qualification and/ or equivalent business/ engineering experience.

Grade: GG11
