Introduction to role:

In this role, under the supervision of the Data Curation Director, you will handle the interpretation and representation of complex biological and medical data, producing controlled vocabularies and following a structured data model in order to enable interoperable data and improve insight into the multiple data types used during the development of clinical products.

Accountabilities:

You will assess and analyze input from TA teams and functions to implement a data curation and harmonization strategy. You will evaluate and interpret clinical and scientific data in the context of ingestion and representation of multiple data asset types into the AZ data infrastructure. You will also be responsible for quality assessment and control of existing data assets. Remediation actions required to ensure full FAIR compliance of existing records will be part of your duties. You will generate high-value, enriched data assets through in-depth curation of selected data assets. You will evaluate and develop different representation standards, aiding compliance in AZ’s data management practice.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Relevant degree in Life Sciences, Information/Data Science, Computer Science, Informatics, IT, or other related subject area
  • PhD-level experience in the pharma and/or the life sciences sector
  • Proven experience in clinical data curation and management, ideally in the healthcare space OR experience with clinical data curation and familiarity with industry standards
  • Operational understanding of common data models, data standards, vocabularies, ontologies etc. and their implementation within a centralized repository
  • Extensive experience working with IT partners in the implementation of data standardization & curation projects
  • Ability to learn new tools and technologies
  • Experience in creating system and user documentation artifacts related to data standards implementation & curation
  • Travel – willingness and ability to travel domestically & internationally.
  • Resilience – ability to overcome and motivate others in the face of a changing environment

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in implementing change management processes involving varied partners.
  • Ability to work with high-throughput data ingestion pipelines through command line approaches, with knowledge of R, Python or equivalent coding language.
  • Practical knowledge of ontology and metadata model creation and development
