We are looking for a highly motivated Research Scientist for a 1 year fixed term contact who can start within 1-2 months to join our Biologics Engineering team in Cambridge, UK. As a Research Scientist, you will be a key member of a team focused on developing the next generation of Immuno-Oncological biologics and Immune Cell Engagers. You will bring your knowledge and practical experience in engineering Biologics to develop the next generation of drug candidates.

Business Unit

In the Oncology Business Unit, we relentlessly follow the science, challenging the status quo to deliver more effective treatments to patients in need. Our dedication means we purposefully push back the limits of knowledge to change the practice of medicine. To ensure no patient is left behind, no matter what stage of disease. The Biologics Engineering team is responsible for the discovery and optimisation of biological candidate drugs to support all therapy area drug discovery pipelines and for the development of in-house biologics discovery platforms and novel drug modalities to support future drug discovery efforts. Fast-paced, it takes agility and responsiveness to stay committed in our pursuit of excellence.

What you'll do

  • Contribute to running lab processes for engineering Next Generation Biologics, such as multi-specific mAbs

  • Provide hands-on for recombinant protein expression, purification and characterisation of the protein produced

  • Provide recommendations and support to design, construct and purify plasmids

  • Analyse experimental data, make details observations and interpretations to support project strategy

  • Keep an accurate record of data and experimental results

  • Participates to internal meetings and actively engage with project stakeholders, and team members

Essential skills

  • Level 4/5 qualification e.g. NVQ, apprenticeship or Bachelor/Master of Science degree in life sciences

  • Knowledge and understanding of standard cloning techniques and molecular biology (e.g. PCR, plasmid purification, DNA sequencing, primer design)

  • Knowledge and experience of recombinant protein expression (e.g. mammalian, e. coli) and purification (e.g. AKTA systems, SDS-PAGE)

  • Ability to conduct and interpret experiments with a track record in engineering biologics

  • Attention to details and good time management

Desirable skills

  • Experience working with antibodies or related biologics
