About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Project Manager to work within the capital projects team at our Macclesfield Campus. The Campus is an essential part of AstraZeneca’s UK Operation and the 2nd largest operational site within the company’s global network. It is approx. 100 acres with around 4500 people working on site. The site is unique in the AstraZeneca network having Operations, R&D, G&A, IT and others on its site. Facility Management are one of the main teams on site and part of this team is Campus Project Solutions (CPS), who deliver engineering capital projects for all the campus residents.

Typically, the team deliver around 60 projects a year ranging in value from £10k’s up to £10M, from refurbishment of carparks to new buildings, from installation of a new heat exchanger to complex Autoclaves, from packaging conveyors to sophisticated tablet packing lines, from office refurbishment to Laboratory upgrades, from plant room pumps & valves to Aseptic HVAC & particle monitoring – basically any minor capital project the campus demands we deliver it. The team consists of Engineering Leadership, Project Managers and Project Engineers, Project Control, Validation and Commissioning and Construction Management and Supervision. The CPS team is approximately 50 direct colleagues and up to 150 people in our partner and term supplier organisations who we collaborate closely with and all are dedicated to delivering the best possible outcome for our customers exceeding key Time, Cost and Quality KPI’s.

This is an exciting new role that will require you to work cross functionally and engage with people from different areas of the business and functions. You’ll need to have an excellent knowledge of project processes and procedures, and experience of delivering a portfolio of engineering projects.

What you'll do

As a Project Manager, you will provide project management and leadership across a broad range of areas in line with business requirements and engineering standards. You will coach and mentor other employees in their discipline across the business and champion project management best practice. As part of AstraZeneca’s Campus Project Solutions project execution team, you will be part of a team of Project Managers that deliver a diverse portfolio of capital projects from conception to operational handover.

You will lead multiple projects, ensuring compliance with engineering, safety and work standards and associated procedures, all to ensure the assets meet business needs and satisfy external regulators. You will provide oversight of delivery performance and report to stakeholders on project progress including scope, schedule, budget, SHE and regulatory compliance. You’ll also facilitate client/sponsor decision-making to drive solutions and manage changes as required, whilst building a networks with the key campus stakeholders.

Most importantly, you will be an effective coach and first-line leader to project teams and developing engineers within the department, whilst being a champion of project management best practice to the Campus Community.

Essential Requirements

  • Strong communication and influencing skills

  • Bachelors degree, or equivalent, in an engineering subject

  • Relevant project management experience leading Pharma or Bio projects, running large (c.£3M) and/or small scale projects (c.£0.5M), from concept to validation

  • Full and detailed knowledge of relevant Safety, Health & Environment legislation

  • Experience and detailed knowledge of CDM

Desirable Requirements

  • Professionally Registered with an accredited Engineering Institution

  • APM, PMI, PRINCE2, or equivalent, qualification as a project practitioner

  • Expertise in at least one functional capability

  • Knowledge of AstraZeneca business

  • Detailed knowledge of pharmaceutical, qualification/validation and pharmaceutical processes

  • Experience of managing engineering contracts, including of NEC4, and use of contract management systems (e.g. CEMAR)
