Director – Business Insights and Analytics, ICS Australia/New Zealand

American Express is looking for Director, Business Insights and Analytics for issuing business in Australia and New Zealand. This role will report to VP – Product, Loyalty, Cobrands and Analytics for Consumer and Commercial business. This is a critical role that will lead the Business Insights and Analytics team for American Express in the Australian market based out of Sydney.

This role will be required to work in close partnership with multiple teams across issuing business to understand & identify growth opportunities based on trends from internal and external data. The role will support business heads to make data driven decisions based on analytics and insights provided by the team.

The role will also include developing new and innovative analytic solution capabilities, and staying on top of industry trends to identify opportunities for segments where American Express can grow profitably.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Development of Strategic Plans and Initiatives: Lead or provide support to Product, Loyalty, Partnership, and Marketing teams on the development of key strategic initiatives. This may include identifying and sizing opportunities, preparation for partner discussions and investment decisions

  • Program Analytics: Ongoing analysis of key product metrics, profitability levers, customer behaviors and trends. Generate insights and analysis to support portfolio management

  • Business Performance Tracking and Trajectory: Work closely with business partners in Business, Finance and Risk teams to analyze various initiatives by the team

  • Competitive Analysis: Analysis of business performance against environmental and competitive trends and research evaluation/opportunity assessment

  • Facilitate environment for data driven decision making: Enhance the profile of analytics by supporting the development of team members within BI&A team and championing democratization of data across ICS

Qualifications

  • 10+ years commercial experience with a combination of product/portfolio management, analytics and stakeholder management. Experience within the payments industry a plus.

  • Proven leadership skills – ability to motivate and drive the team forward

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, balanced with the ability to turn data and insights into strategy and actions

  • Very strong business/financial acumen with the ability to identify and size growth opportunities and measure results

  • Proficiency in using data visualisation tools (such as Tableau)

  • Proficiency in coding skills using SQL, SAS, Hive, Python on large datasets is recommended – this will assist in leading the team

  • Advanced Excel, PowerPoint skills

  • High attention to detail

  • Strong time management, prioritization, communication, stakeholder management and presentation skills

  • Ability to multi task and lead key projects simultaneously

  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic with a growth mindset and passion for driving results

  • Thought leader with influencing skills

  • Passionate people leader who can attract, retain and developer talent
