Our industry is rapidly evolving, and we need courageous, quick thinkers who can shape the pricing strategies that drive our business forward. Whether it’s negotiating with some of our largest global partners or creating specific country or industry pricing solutions, you can influence the single largest source of American Express’ revenue: Merchant Discount Revenue. As part of the Global Merchant Services (GMS) Pricing team you will determine the optimal discount rate pricing to encourage merchant acceptance of American Express, while striving to improve coverage and merchant satisfaction, essential to the strength of our business.

How will you make an impact in this role?

The Pricing Analyst is responsible for supporting the delivery of various pricing strategies across EMEA and developing merchant insights and industry-level analyses on our price points.

  • Support the development of pricing strategies based on quantitative data analytics and provide recommendations on key financial / commercial terms during merchant negotiations.
  • Provide analytical support for business cases and merchant pricing solutions, model P&L impacts, and perform sensitivity analyses to drive agile business decisions.
  • Develop sophisticated financial models to help scenario analyses for large scale pricing initiatives, synthesize findings to deliver insights and evaluate effectiveness.
  • Draw merchant-specific insights from internal data (volume trends, transactions, etc.) and external data (analyst reports, industry research, etc.) to identify key opportunities and challenges for pricing strategies.
  • Collaborate and build relationships across client management and processing teams to ensure goal achievement.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of infrastructure, streamline implementation of contract/payment terms and enhancements to other internal processes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent experience
  • Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint to an advanced level, skills in SAS / SQL desirable
  • Strong aptitude for analytics; demonstrated ability to develop sophisticated financial models and draw value-added insights from large amounts of financial data
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral to prepare for discussions with Senior Leaders/ decision makers
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment, which places a premium on driving results
  • Creative thinker who is willing to question traditional ways of doing things and develop new approaches to old challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple requests and prioritize accordingly, comfort working with unstructured problems
  • Capacity to remain calm and flexible under pressure
