About the job

We are recruiting for a Physiotherapist / Ergonomics Consultant with scope to work across all of Alcoa’s Western Australian locations. Reporting through to the Human Factors Lead, your primary focus will be on the prevention and proactive management of musculoskeletal disorders in the workplace. This includes workplace and task redesign, early intervention, injury assessment, treatment, and management within current best practice guidelines.

Your core activities as the Physiotherapist / Ergonomics Consultant are:

  • Facilitation of the Human Factors program, including working with Huntly and Willowdale Mines to integrate key strategies into the business plan.

  • Oversee and/or conduct ergonomic assessments and provide recommendations for risk reduction.

  • Provide technical advice regarding effective ergonomic risk reduction, this includes design and purchasing of new plant and equipment, and job/task redesign.

  • Assisting with injury investigations to identify causative and contributing factors and providing advice on corrective actions.

  • Clinical assessment of musculoskeletal disorders, development and provision of physiotherapy treatment and exercise rehabilitation/management plans.

  • Ensuring musculoskeletal injuries are managed in accordance with clinical practice guidelines, maximising capacity, reducing disability, improving outcomes, and minimising risk.

  • Providing ongoing coaching and education for the Occupational Health Services Team in musculoskeletal injuries.

The vision of Alcoa Australia’s Occupational Health Services department is “Leadership in Health”, and the Human Factors team are a key part of this, optimising the wellbeing of people at work.

Growth and development opportunities exist within our Occupational Health Services. If you have a background in both Physiotherapy and Ergonomics, this could be an exciting opportunity for a hybrid role, to flex depending on department and business needs. Relevant training and upskilling will be provided if the successful candidate does not already have experience in this field.

About you

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Physiotherapy, completion of or progression towards post graduate qualification in a related field well regarded.

  • Eligible for registration by the Physiotherapy Board of Australia.

  • Demonstrated experience in an occupational setting in the mining or manufacturing industry.

  • Relevant clinical experience, evidence-based practice, knowledge and advanced skill set in assessment, treatment and evaluation within the clinical speciality area.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate services within a defined area of practice.
