Design Manager M&E Tunnels - Construction Southern Region (SA focus)

Due to continued strong growth and the award of several new projects supporting important infrastructure across Australia in renewables and water infrastructure projects, we are looking for experienced Design Managers M&E Tunnels to join our ACCIONA Mechanical and Electrical Team (AM&E) team.

This role will see you responsible for leading a design team of internal resources and external consultants. You will also effectively control and manage all design management aspects of infrastructure projects to ensure the design meets all technical, contractual, commercial and program deliverables aspects.

Key accountabilities for the position will be:

  • Lead all engineering activities on tenders and projects in delivery, being responsible for scope, program, budget, and contract negotiations.
  • Prepare consultants' brief, seek fee proposals, and manage the process of consultants' selection.
  • Manage budget, fee estimates and commercial arrangements with design consultants to assess variations and scope changes identifying budget overrun and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Manage the design process to ensure that all detail design is compliant within the parameters of the Cost Plan and maximise the Project's profit potential.
  • Establish, manage, and maintain a realistic design program and deliverables to satisfy contract, procurement, and construction requirements by monitoring progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems and ensure the timely production of design reporting information as required.
  • Manage the design related RFI's, NCR's, design change and closure of comments between stakeholders including Design and Construction Delivery teams.

Key competencies for the role:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a related technical discipline, combined with significant and demonstrable EPC experience.
  • Tunneling Experience is preferably.
  • Considerable demonstrated experience in a similar position working for or managing design consultants within EPC, D&C, PPP projects.
  • Advanced Written and verbal communication skills
  • Well-developed influencing and people management skills
  • Problem-solving, analytical thinking and leadership skills
  • Strong experience in planning and staging programs
