We are looking for a Lead Land Consents Manager to join our team!

The Lead Land Consents Manager is responsible for the Land Consents Team in South Caledonia Region of SHEPD’s licence area.

The role involves leading the team of Land Consents Managers and Wayleave Officers, and is the main point of escalation for any issues that arise from the work SHEPD carries out throughout the region.

You will be negotiating on behalf of SHEPD to obtain consents and agree compensation with landowners and occupiers before, during, and after projects have been carried out.

The role has oversight over all consents in the South Caledonia Region, leading a team of Wayleave Officers and Land Consent Managers who will deliver SHEPD’s land consents for the region.

Other responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

- The Lead Land Consent Manager deals with all escalations and difficult disputes, as well as supporting the team where possible when these cases arise. This includes dealing with termination cases under the Electricity Act, negotiating compensation claims, building relationships with landowners, and dealing with complaints.

- The role has oversight over the project programmes for Capex consents work and new connections work, ensuring projects are delivered on time. This also involves managing wayleave contractors, and assisting with SSEN processes in those projects.

- The Lead Land Consent Manager will take the lead on large substation refurbishment projects, negotiating land purchases and leases, as well as access routes, servitudes

- The Lead Land Consent Manager will have line management responsibility for the South Caledonia Consents Team, managing holidays, sickness leave, workload management, and general line management responsibility.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- A working knowledge of land consents for utilities projects - wayleave agreements, servitudes, leases and purchase arrangements.

- Experience in gaining consent for projects, including dealing with disputes that arise from them and negotiating compensation.

- A good working knowledge of the Electricity Act 1989, agricultural practices, land management practices, and an understanding of forestry. An understanding of valuations would be beneficial.

- Good communication and negotiation skills are essential for this role.

- Have attained or be willing to work towards MRICS status.

It is an essential requirement for this role that you have a full, current driving licence.
