As part of our NZAP+ programme, SSE Renewables (SSER) is developing a 2.5GW pipeline of solar and battery projects in the UK and Ireland, of which the first 230MW are now in construction. Our solar and battery division, which forms part of SSER’s Onshore Directorate, has been one of the fastest growing teams at SSE in recent years.

Base Location: London, Reading or Glasgow

Salary: £96,100 - £144,100 + performance-related bonus + car/allowance + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing, and family.

About the Role

As Director of Development, you will be part of the Solar and Battery leadership team and will manage the development of our multi-GW pipeline, from greenfield origination to securing financial investment. Your team originates and develops new projects, and also takes acquired projects (working with the acquisitions team) and drives them to completion. This pipeline includes both c.1.5GW of more mature projects, and a significant greenfield pipeline for the longer-term.

Your main responsibilities will be:

- Putting safety at the centre of everything and developing a strong safety culture within your team and projects.

- Driving successful pipeline and project development outcomes for the business, shareholders, and stakeholders to enable the achievement of our five and ten year targets.

- Leading the development team, fostering a culture of high performance.

- Overseeing the Project Development strategy and plan, and using your expertise to build and embed best practices.

- Supporting sound business decisions that drive business growth, particularly around acquisition and investment.

What do I need?

You will have a background in project development, and you’ll need to be an accomplished people leader with experience of managing through change. Commercially astute and experienced, you’ll play a key role in shaping and supporting the team through project phases and contract negotiations, and in achieving their goals through a period of continued growth.

We would also love you to have:

- Experience of energy infrastructure, knowledge of the energy and power markets and the associated regulatory environment.

- Experience of operating in a fast-growth business environment, including effectively managing stakeholders.

- Experience of managing a portfolio and team which is distributed geographically.

- A strategic and entrepreneurial approach to work.
