Greater Anglia operates a busy railway network between London Liverpool Street and the east of England.
With a team of around 3,000 colleagues, we operate 134 stations throughout Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, and Suffolk. Greater Anglia also operate Stansted Express services between London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport.
Roles on the railway are very varied with everything possible from train driving, customer service, being involved with engineering, working in our control room or being part of the HR, finance, marketing, safety, train planning, or communicationsteams.

Early Careers at Greater Anglia
Greater Anglia offers many opportunities as part of its early careers work including pre-employment opportunities, supported internships, industrial placements and apprenticeships.
Pre-employment and supported internship schemes
The 12-week pre-employment scheme is aimed at those aged 16 to 19 who are not currently in employment, training or education. It is also open to 19-to-24-year-olds that are on an education, health or care plan) . The schemecombines classroom-based learning with workplace training. It helps young individuals to begin their working lives with strong workplace skills.
University opportunities: industry placements and career progression
Placements are open to university students who are searching for work experience. They are typically undertaken in the third year of a four-year degree.
Students can join one of eight different departments, from marketing or finance to asset management or HR.
Karolina, who previously completed a placement, has since gone on to become a Brand Manager for Greater Anglia. Her experience demonstrates just how valuable the year can be to gaining key skills and creating an impression.

Committed to professional development
Greater Anglia are proud to have ranked in the Apprenticeships Top 100 Employers list 2023.
The company offers apprenticeships to both new and existing colleagues. Since 2017, they have helped over 180 frontline and office staff to secure apprenticeships, supporting their professional development.

The Affinity employee network group, will be wearing colourful branded T-shirts during the march. The march is at the heart of Norwich Pride. Its progress through the streets of Norwich is a symbol of protest, visibility, and a show of strength in numbers.

The role isn’t something that a woman would necessarily think about – I never thought I would be a driver. It wasn’t until I became a conductor in 2012 and saw a woman driving that I thought I would want to do it.
