Job Title: Senior Weights Engineer
Location: Nationwide - We offer a range of hybrid or remote working arrangements
Salary: Up to £46,420, depending on skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
- Carrying out complex weights and margins analyses to include evaluation of root causes, impacts at the system or whole ship level and preparation of material to support the articulation of those impacts to the wider customer community
- Validating Technical Equipment Specification weight budgets and monitoring and tracking those budgets
- Supporting development of the Lightship calculation and the tracking of Lightship weights and moments against available margins in accordance with weights processes
- Carrying out investigations into emergent change and developing and preparing solutions, individually or as a part of the wider team
- Carrying out technical investigations and providing recommendations. Making engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- Experience working as part of a multi-discipline project team
- Experience in engineering and/or a defence related industry
- Experience deriving weight calculations and margins
Desirable:
- Degree qualified, most likely in a technology, engineering, or science related discipline
- Be a member of a relevant Professional Body and preferably be working towards meeting the requirements for registration as Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council
- Knowledge of ship design and construction
- Experience with specialist weights related software and ship specific design and modelling packages

Naval Architecture team
This role will provide you with the opportunity to join our Naval Ships Business as part of a team delivering the design for 15 Canadian Surface Combatant vessels for the Royal Canadian Navy.
As Senior Weights Engineer you will report into the Principal Weights Engineer and will be undertaking a defined range of engineering activities, such as generating weight estimates, analysing margins, and reporting accurate weight/CoG information for components, systems and changes to multiple systems.
