Our Submarines Business
Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world's most complex engineering challenges.

Scaffolder
Would you like to work on a highly technical product through various stages of construction and commissioning? We currently have a vacancy for a Scaffolder at our site in Barrow.
As a Scaffolder, you will have the opportunity to be involved in the overall build of an Astute class and Dreadnought submarine. You will be working with internal & external customers on this exciting project. Going forward, we are planning support to the next generation of nuclear submarines.
The scaffolding team fit into the Production Services organisation that provides safe working platforms to various trade's within the business.
Your main responsibilities as a Scaffolder will involve:
- Working safely at all times, complying with Health and Safety and other relevant regulations and guidelines
- Ensuring right first time is adhered
- Working within TG20 and SG4
- Task allocation from Team Leader for their daily workload
- Erecting/Dismantle/Alteration of Scaffolding
Your skills and qualifications:
- NVQ Level 2 Scaffolder
- Experienced in tube and fitting
- Working within TG20 and SG4
- Experienced Team Worker
- CISRS Card (Must Be Seen on Application)
- Industrial background advantageous (Not Essential)
- Willing to work towards level 3 if not already at this stage

The successful applicant will be responsible for the planning of and building of structures to support the build of Astute class submarines. A forward thinking, hardworking individual with good communication skills will add value to the team and business.
