About the role

At Woolies, we’re about creating customer and team first experiences. To enable this, the Smart & Simpler Program is process led, technology enabled to deliver consistent in-store processes to deliver better, safer experiences for our customers and team members. We work in an agile way so we can be flexible to follow the energy of the organisation and go where the work is needed based on our strategy, or where there is a reset to reflect any business shifts. Thematically, we organise our team to deliver across programs in either the Design or Delivery phase and our programs stretch across solution design initiatives connected to Front of Store (FOS), Fresh, Non-Trade and Longlife.


The Opportunity:

At Woolies, we believe in putting our customers and team first. The Smart & Simpler Tribe is a collective of team members who come together to design and deploy end-to-end solutions that are simpler for stores, better for customers and disrupt the retail industry status quo.

You will establish the product vision, maintain the product/initiative roadmap and be responsible for the delivery of key initiatives within your stream of work. As needed, you will utilise your other generalist capabilities to contribute to the work required of the squad, enabling the quality and timely delivery of the overall initiative.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Establish the product vision and, maintain and drive the initiative/product roadmap
  • Establish the product vision in consultation with key stakeholders
  • Creation and management of the overall roadmap, including ongoing initiative strategy, planning, experience design and requirements development for new features, functionality and integrations
  • Ownership of resource planning and mapping across initiatives, ensuring all resources are fully occupied.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to define milestones and ensure on-time and in-scope delivery to maximise value
  • Collaboration cross divisionally (Store Operations, Format and Network Development, IT, Finance, Marketing, Supply Chain, replenishment)
  • Manage prioritisation and trade-offs among conflicting business priorities
  • Develop business processes together with internal partners to support the initiative roadmap
  • Champion for the customer by collaborating with the right stakeholders to develop user stories
  • Collaborate and influence stakeholders to form an agreed product/initiative roadmap
  • Facilitate communication and reporting to the executive and leadership teams on the initiative agenda
  • Track, measure and be accountable for achieving product KPIs and success measures at the individual product and portfolio levels
  • Manage & prioritise the backlog with the Squad
  • Lead the Squad to achieve the product vision


Who we’re looking for:

This is a role for a delivery specialist with an agile delivery background (ideally in retail), and a proven track record in delivering complex solutions at scale.

The successful candidate will have the following attributes:

  • An agile mindset in ways of working
  • Leadership of small to medium teams working in complex, fast paced operating environments
  • Leading large programs of work and managing stakeholders in a complex operating environment
  • Solution opportunity identification, assessment and design
  • Practical application of Agile practices to enable initiative delivery
  • Strong commercial/business acumen
  • Track record of initiative delivery
  • Ensure key stakeholders remain aligned to the purpose, objectives and outcomes
  • 5+ years Business Project Management experience within a business environment and strong project delivery experience
  • Formal project management qualifications
  • Strong commercial/business acumen, with sound financials experience
  • Demonstrated effective negotiation and influencing skills with stakeholders;
  • Good communicator, both written and verbal
  • Proven ability in gaining the trust and respect from key business partners
  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite
