We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Contracts Manager (Superintendent) in the Contracts Delivery Area at the Perth CBD Office, on a permanent full-time basis.

Roll up your sleeves and get hands on with multi-million dollar contract administration, this role is the closest you’ll get to being your own boss under the Western Power umbrella. In the Contracts Delivery Area, we safely facilitate the external delivery of various network driven projects and programs of work. We achieve this through applying robust contract management principles as defined by Western Power’s contract management framework.


About this role

The main purpose of this position is to undertake the Superintendent responsibilities under the AS4000 suite of contracts, eg. AS4902, AS4906, AS4910. You will act as the agent on behalf of the principal and as the independent certifier for Superintendent administered contracts.

In performing this role, as agent for the principal, you shall ensure you act in the principal’s best interests and in accordance with the principal’s obligations with regards to the contract terms and conditions and relevant statutory laws. As independent certifier you will act without bias as an impartial assessor when certifying claims.

Additionally, this position is required to provide technical leadership, advice, counsel, training, mentoring and development of other Western Power contracts professionals with regards to Superintendent responsibilities and other general contract administration.

Specifically, in this role you will:

  • Where authorised by the contract, certify: progress payments, variation claims, practical completion, final completion, extensions of time, liquidated damages, delay costs, costs due to changes in legislative requirements and defect rectification works and costs
  • Maintain, coordinate and continuously improve the contract document management system to oversee and record the parties’ performance of contract obligations and deliverables during the contract term
  • Where authorised by the contract, issue directions in relation to carrying out the work, including works to which a provisional sum applies
  • Where authorised by the contract, be responsible for approvals including the construction program and subcontractors
  • Direct the interpretation of a contract document in the event of any inconsistency, ambiguity or discrepancy
  • Assess and direct extensions of time
  • Direct and certify the cost of variations, including in relation to deemed variations for latent conditions
  • Structure and document the ongoing training and development of team members in the role of the Superintendent and general contract administration.


About you

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, law, commerce/business, construction or related discipline
  • A seasoned professional with significant, broad and comprehensive experience performing the role of the Contract Superintendent or Senior Contract Manager
  • A mindset allowing you to act independently, fairly and impartially, including the ability to ignore subjective opinions and rationalise based on objective facts
  • Detailed knowledge of the Australian Standard General Conditions of Contract (particularly the AS4000 suite of Standard Contracts)
  • Strong knowledge of the project and contract management, programming, planning and coordination of work for a utility or similar industry
  • Significant experience in contract management including strong negotiation skills, excellent business acumen and proven commercial and contractual risk management and analysis skills
  • Health and safety knowledge relevant to the electricity supply and construction sector would be desirable
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage several priorities
  • Strong leadership, influencing, negotiation, conflict resolution, communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to deal with pressure, ambiguity and change and to adapt to and manage different situations.
