We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Network Controller at our Perth Office, on a Permanent Full-Time basis.
About this role
As a Network Controller you will be required to write, check, approve transmission switching schedules to manage the South West Interconnected Network. Ensure the power system is operated in a safe, reliable and efficient manner in accordance with Western Power’s (WP) policies and procedures.
Make immediate independent decisions to maintain network integrity to ensure the network is operated within the technical envelope and ensure compliance obligations, employee and public safety requirements are met.
You will also:
- Be responsible for duties and compliance with Network Operations Policies & Procedures.
- Perform real-time and forecasted studies to determine the compatibility of planned work and the impact of critical contingencies on network security and established plans to deal with possible events.
- Maintain databases and registers of equipment and personnel. Control work permits and access to the Network to ensure personnel, plant and public safety.
- Use knowledge and experience to develop, coordinate and implement plans to restore faults during normal emergency conditions.
- Identify and respond to incidents, emergencies, abnormal failure of network assets on the SWIN and perform remedial actions in a timeframe to mitigate any threats to safety, continuity and quality of supply
- Be responsible for providing on and off the job training to others, trainees and operational support personnel by assisting in the preparation of training material relevant to power systems, scheduling and delivering training and undertaking assessments.
About you
We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:
- Electrical trade certificate to cert III level or Electrical Diploma, Advanced Electrical Diploma or Degree in related engineering or science discipline
- Valid WA Driver’s License Class ‘C’ or ‘C-A’
- Minimum requirements for EA level 6
- Sound knowledge and experience of applying WPC safety policies, electrical safety instructions and operating procedures. Preferably Relevant technical and operational experience in electricity networks of at least 5+ years.
- Knowledge of:
- construction, maintenance and/or operations of primary and secondary plant.
- field practices and procedures and its relationship to the distribution and transmission system.
- commercial and domestic customer owned electrical equipment (Including PPG’s and contestable customers).
- customers’ specific requirements with respect to supply reliability and quality.
- power system paralleling techniques.
- protection and control equipment and schemes.
- circuit and load flow analysis including voltage control.
- Network Technical Rules and Planning Criteria
- Proficiency in computer systems including schematic and geospatial systems i.e. Document Management, Microsoft Office, XA21, POA, NOIW and eNAR or similar systems.
