What does a Wastewater Operator do?

As a Wastewater Operator, you’re regularly outdoors. You’re digging trenches, inspecting pipelines, and repairing broken water services.

You’ll be attending to sewer blockages and other emergency situations, preventative jet-washing of sewer mains, cleaning sewer pump stations, attending to basic sewer system repair and grid maintenance inspections of manholes.

Your main concern is keeping the sewer network running. That’s finding and fixing faults, and upgrading the network when required. It’s having the knowledge that the sewer system is a critical part of maintaining the health and environment of your local community to the standards we all expect.

What’s involved?

You’ll operate, maintain, monitor and repair water and wastewater assets.This may also include operating treatment plants from time to time..

You’ll participate in safe job planning, team meetings and workplace inspections.

You’ll also participate in overtime and call out availability rosters as required.

All work is undertaken with safety as the priority in the provision of a work environment where no injury is considered acceptable, and all activities are undertaken without compromising health and safety.

Flexible working options - Your full-time roster will consist of a 9-day fortnight, meaning every second week you will have a 3-day weekend (RDO) to enjoy doing the things you love

You’ll have pro-rata access to long service leave after 3 years of continuous service and you’ll receive 17.5% extra pay when you take annual leave

In addition to the base requirement, Water Corporation will make an additional 2% super contribution when you elect to salary sacrifice 2% of your salary to super.

Key skills and experience

  • White/Blue Card
  • Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence at minimum. A Western Australian “MR” Class Drivers Licence is desirable.
  • Experience in civil work and/or water supply and wastewater systems (desirable)
