About the role
Reporting to the Daily Operations Manager, as part of the Shunting team based at Southern Cross Station you will be responsible for shunting movements of V/Line vehicles in accordance with strict safety and operational parameters.
- This is a safety critical role and requires a high degree of concentration and an absolute commitment to adhering to safety protocols.
- The role involves working as part of a diverse team to implement multiple shunting moves to and from the passenger yard and includes the need to climb on and off vehicles on a regular basis, frequent bending and walking long distances.
- Working instructions are predominantly via radio communications which require a person with excellent communicative skills and particularly alert and responsive behaviours.
- This role is a great starting point for a challenging and rewarding career within the safety critical operational area of V/Line.
What we’re looking for
- Experience operating as part of a frontline logistical support team in a safety and time critical environment as well as sound knowledge of the railway environment would be advantageous.
- The ability to recognise safety hazards before and as they arise and respond appropriately following operating policies and procedures.
- A team player who enjoys supporting their colleagues when needed.
- An interest and commitment to a career in shunting is highly desirable.
- A requirement of this position is for the successful applicant to work on 24/7 rotating shift basis including weekends and public holidays.
- The successful applicant will undertake applicable training within V/Line to perform this role, and pass safety critical assessments to be deemed competent. You will be required to wear and maintain a full V/Line uniform including Personal Protective Equipment.

The hourly rate for this position is $55.0839 (aggregate rate) per hour under the classification of PAS OP EMP 2A. The selection process may include aptitude assessments, a behavioural event interview, probity (national police) check and medical check.
