As Site Surveillance Officer, you are V/line’s on-the-ground representative on the Inland Rail project.
Working closely with Project Engineers—and the Project Manager—you ensure that the Structures and Station works are delivered to V/Line standards.
About the role
The success of your work as a Site Surveillance Officer is in building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Excellent communication skills are essential as you are involved with matters of safety, site access, surveillance, reporting, compliance, and handovers.
Reporting responsibilities include:
- Monitoring works and reworks to make sure they are constructed in accordance with V/Line Standards & Specifications
- Reporting identified issues in a timely manner
- Maintaining a diary of observations
- Accepting, witnessing, and reviewing handback and handover documentation
Safety responsibilities include:
- Ensuring site works are undertaken safely and in accordance with developed documentation on behalf of V/Line
- Completing Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Incident & Hazard Reporting, making sure to report all safety, security, and environmental incidents, close calls, and hazards; providing clear recommendations to ensure ongoing safe and effective performance.
It is essential to know this role is based ‘on site’.
About you
We value you for your reliability and ability to work & grow as part of our busy projects team. You are capable and decisive, with a collaborative approach to work.
You have proven stakeholder management skills, with several years’ experience in site surveillance or as a site supervisor.
You have extensive experience in building or construction, ideally in a rail environment.
Qualifications are not required for this role, but you might hold a Certificate or Diploma in Building & Construction, Leadership, or Management.
Track Safety Awareness certification, familiarity with the Rail Safety Act 2006 (Vic), and sound understanding of rail standards and operating procedures are desirable, but not essential.
If you are well-suited to the job but your knowledge & experience is outside the rail environment, training and support will be provided.

The salary range for this permanent, ongoing role is up to $109,700 (including superannuation).
Benefits include 4 weeks’ annual leave and free myki for metro & regional travel.
Essential information
This is a Medical Category 3 role.
The selection process may include assessments. a behavioural event interview, probity (police check), reference checks, and a medical.
You must have a current, valid Victorian Driver Licence. A tool of trade vehicle will be provided, with reimbursements for all travel-related meals & accommodation.
You must have an Employee Working with Children (WWC) check (or the ability to obtain a WWC check prior to commencing employment).
