The Role
Due to a recently awarded high profile Defence contract Ventia are currently looking to engage an experienced Fire Safety Sentry to provide range Management services to the Defence Force. This is a casual position lasting the fire season (November '22 - May '23), that will see you based at Puckapunyal. In addition, the responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical advice to Ventia Range Management and customers as required
  • Assist the Range Supervisor with HSE Site Inspections, Job Analysis and safety Observations
  • Ensure all customer complaints are addressed and feedback is provided to the customer
  • Provide assistance to range users and other customers as required
  • Ensure adherence to Range Standing Orders and report any identified breaches immediately to range Control
  • Manage the day to day operation of a Fire tower.
  • Keep a clean and tidy work area
  • Have a positive approach to work
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the Range Supervisor.

Skills and Experience

  • Well defined written and verbal communications skills. Basic computer skills in MS Office applications
  • Ability to use tools specific to range operations and maintenance processes including (but not limited to) power tools, chain saws, and other unspecified plant and equipment
  • High level of experience in Radio telecommunication systems
  • Demonstrate the ability to navigate using a map and compass including highly competent in map to ground navigation from a Fire tower.
  • Currently hold a vehicle license (manual), heavy vehicle and plant license desirable
  • Certificate in First Aid
  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work as a member of a team and autonomously
  • An ability to work flexibly and adaptively in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Currently holds vehicle license including plant driver/operator’s license.
  • Experience in RTA and/or Land Management desirable
  • Bush firefighting qualifications desirable but not essential.
