We are responsible for strategy, planning, policy, regulation, funding allocation and other non-service delivery functions for all modes of transport in NSW including road, rail, ferry, light rail, point to point, regional air, cycling and walking.
We focus on improving the customer experience and contract public and private operators to deliver customer-focused transport services on our behalf.

We also lead the procurement of transport infrastructure and oversee delivery through project delivery offices and industry delivery partners.

The opportunity

Our Engineering and Maintenance directorate manages a $1.5 billion annual maintenance program on behalf of Sydney Trains and NSW Trains – delivering a safe, reliable passenger fleet and metropolitan rail network, to meet growing customer demand and keep Sydney moving.

Our Fleet Maintenance Division maintains electric and diesel passenger fleets for Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink at seven depots spread across the network, as well as technical fault finding advice to crew, in-service response to train faults and failures, and emergency train recovery.

Right now, we have exciting opportunity for a Resource and Allocation Manager to join our Fleet Maintenance Division. The primary purpose of this role is to manage the resource allocations and associated documentation as well as leading and planning resource schedules for the for the Division, in order to ensure the provision of quality, customer centric services and project delivery.

This role is a 6 month Temporary Full-Time opportunity based out of our Engineering Hub in Clyde but will involve regular visits to a number of our Fleet Maintenance Depots across Sydney.

What you will be involved in:

Reporting to the Workforce & Capability Manager, your key responsibilities are but not limited to:

  • Manage and develop resource requirements and plan allocation needs with relevant managers enabling the division to achieve business requirements in a cost and time effective manner.
  • Ensure that staff are competent to perform their role and provide effective coaching and leadership to maintain high standards of staff performance and develop skills and capabilities to meet the future needs of the business.
  • Develop and manage training, resourcing and capability reporting tools to support effective service delivery.
  • Assist with knowledge management requirements and set up and manage the process for sharing and cross skilling.

About you

You will have demonstrated experience in leading and forward planning resources in a busy and changing environment ideally from a multi-discipline heavy engineering or maintenance background.

You will have knowledge and working experience of competency based training and assessment plus relevant legislative and regulatory requirements. Desirable to have Training and Assessment cert 4 (TAE 40116). Ideally you will also hold a cert 3 in Electrical or Mechanical trade.

A successful applicant will have strong stakeholder engagement, organisational and time management skills with the ability to be pro-active to plan, prioritise and complete work within allocated timeframes.

You will have good oral and written communication skills and have proficient experience in software packages including using learning systems, databases and spread sheet-based reporting.

Salary and benefits

The salary for this position is RC6 ($127,559 - $141,442) per annum plus shift overtime, superannuation and leave loading.
