Transport for NSW is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions.

We are responsible for strategy, planning, policy, regulation, funding allocation and other non-service delivery functions for all modes of transport in NSW including road, rail, ferry, light rail, point to point, regional air, cycling and walking.
We focus on improving the customer experience and contract public and private operators to deliver customer-focused transport services on our behalf.

We also lead the procurement of transport infrastructure and oversee delivery through project delivery offices and industry delivery partners.

About the team

The Planning Analysis & Modelling team is focused on innovation, technology and utilisation of data to drive improvements in customer experience, transition towards optimised system based planning practices and deliver efficiency.

The opportunity

Right now, we have 2x new created permanent full-time vacancies to join us in the planning analysis and modelling team within Sydney Trains:

  • Planning & Modelling Analyst (RC Grade 6)
  • Senior Planning & Modelling Analyst (RC Grade 7)

In these roles, you’ll have the unique opportunity to develop and maintain the operational and customer modelling, simulation and analytical systems and processes that support the Planning Analysis and Modelling team in delivering quality, safe and reliable planning solutions and minimising customer impacts.

This role will be located at the ROC (Rail Operations Centre), near to Green Square station with options to work from home.

What you will be involved in

  • Drive the identification of where data analysis/mining can create value and solve problems for the business.
  • Ensure the prompt analysis of customer behaviour is conducted in response to interrupted rail services and special events to better align supply with demand.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of optimisation and predictive models to provide data based, customer insights and recommendations to support improved service design and operational decision making.
  • Drive the identification and provision of reporting tools that can transform complex information to present clear recommendations based on outcomes of modelling and analytical activities to support management and key stakeholder decision making.
  • Undertake research into the operations and inputs of models to enhance the ability to produce accurate modelling outputs.

About you

We are looking for exceptional problem solvers who has a passion for using data analysis and mining processes to create value and solve tricky business problems. You will have extensive experience working with large amounts of data, as well as experience working with predictive and optimisation model development.

A keen programmer, you’ve worked with languages like R, Python, Java and JavaScript and data analytic tools such as SAS, SPSS and Alteryx but you can also demonstrate the rare ability to translate complex and technical language into easy-to-understand information.

Salary and benefits

The salary for theses positions are RC Grade 6 ($127,559 - $141,442) & RC Grade 7($143,555 - $157,945) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
