We are responsible for strategy, planning, policy, regulation, funding allocation and other non-service delivery functions for all modes of transport in NSW including road, rail, ferry, light rail, point to point, regional air, cycling and walking.
We focus on improving the customer experience and contract public and private operators to deliver customer-focused transport services on our behalf.

We also lead the procurement of transport infrastructure and oversee delivery through project delivery offices and industry delivery partners.

Our Engineering and Maintenance directorate manages a $1.5 billion annual maintenance program on behalf of Sydney Trains and NSW Trains – delivering a safe, reliable passenger fleet and metropolitan rail network, to meet growing customer demand and keep Sydney moving.

Our Fleet Maintenance Division maintains electric and diesel passenger fleets for Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink at seven depots spread across the network, as well as technical fault finding advice to crew, in-service response to train faults and failures, and emergency train recovery.

The opportunity

Right now, we have an exciting opportunity for a Depot Engineer to join Sydney Trains, Mortdale Maintenance Centre on a permanent full time basis. As a part of the Fleet Maintenance Division in this role you will be primarily responsible for the review technical standards and specifications, undertake technical investigations, provide technical advice and support to maintenance centre trades personnel to enable the timely and effective resolution of mechanical/electrical maintenance issues.

What you will be involved in?

  • Provide specialist technical advice, complete investigations and provide support to the Maintenance Centre staff and other clients to ensure the effective maintenance, resolution of issues and ongoing reliability of Rolling stock.
  • Provide expert technical input on Rolling Stock systems at incident or accident enquiries to ensure that informed decisions are based on sound technical information.
  • Develop and implement reliability programs to increase the reliability, safety and cost effectiveness of the Rolling Stock and associated equipment for existing and future trains.
  • Interpret and translate technical specifications, blue prints and other reference material in order to determine new design requirements and modifications to existing equipment and assist trades personnel in achieving maintenance objectives.

About you

Ideally, you will hold an engineering degree or a diploma in Mechatronics or Mechanical discipline & haven demonstrated experience in a heavy maintenance workshop.

You will have a great track record of driving various complex technical investigations, reliability measures and modifications of components or machine systems.

Working knowledge of RCM & RCA will be highly regarded. In addition, you will have strong communication skills and experience communicating at all levels coupled with excellent stakeholder engagement and be accountable with high levels of integrity.

Exposure and working experience in EAM systems, Lean Principles and rolling stock although not mandatory are highly desirable.

Salary and benefits

The salary for this position is RC5 ($106,653 - $123,022) per annum plus shift overtime, superannuation and leave loading.
