Electrician
Transport for NSW is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions.
We are responsible for strategy, planning, policy, regulation, funding allocation and other non-service delivery functions for all modes of transport in NSW including road, rail, ferry, light rail, point to point, regional air, cycling and walking.
We focus on improving the customer experience and contract public and private operators to deliver customer-focused transport services on our behalf.
We also lead the procurement of transport infrastructure and oversee delivery through project delivery offices and industry delivery partners.

The opportunity
Our Engineering and Maintenance directorate manages a $1.5 billion annual maintenance program on behalf of Sydney Trains and NSW Trains – delivering a safe, reliable passenger fleet and metropolitan rail network, to meet growing customer demand and keep Sydney moving.
Right now, we have an opportunity for an Electrician to be part of Fleet Maintenance division of Sydney Trains. The primary purpose of the role involves inspecting, servicing, overhauling and repairing mechanical/pneumatic systems, equipment and components on diesel fleet passenger trains to contribute to the reliability and availability levels for the passenger fleet.
The role will be based in Sydenham Maintenance Centre and is a permanent full time opportunity.
This is a 24/7 rotating shift work position, 12 hours roster that requires you to work on weekends and nights.
What you will be involved in:
- Carry out maintenance, service, fault finding, problem analysis and repairs to electrical control, traction and auxiliary electrical systems and components on the XPT rolling stock.
- Carry out maintenance, service, fault finding, problem analysis, repairs and component changes to train lighting air conditioning and refrigeration systems on XPT trains.
- Carry out functional testing of electrical and mechanical systems, engines, doors, brakes on XPT trains and assist Mechanical Engineering Operators in trouble shooting and repairs to equipment.
- Maintenance Quality and Safety Continuous Improvement Initiatives.
About you
To be eligible for this role, you must have a trade qualification in the Electrical field or hold a diploma of engineering certifications.
You will have demonstrated experience in conducting inspections, services, maintenance, component changes and repairs to electrical systems and equipment. You will be a safety champion and competent in the use of basic computer information systems and be flexible for travel.
Qualification/Licence in Refrigeration / Air Conditioning and Forklift licence are desirable.

Salary and benefits
The salary for this position is E05.3 - E08.2 ($1,230.05 - $1493.25/week) plus shift overtime, superannuation and leave loading.
