Transport for NSW is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions.

We are responsible for strategy, planning, policy, regulation, funding allocation and other non-service delivery functions for all modes of transport in NSW including road, rail, ferry, light rail, point to point, regional air, cycling and walking.
We focus on improving the customer experience and contract public and private operators to deliver customer-focused transport services on our behalf.

We also lead the procurement of transport infrastructure and oversee delivery through project delivery offices and industry delivery partners.

Transport for NSW’s Sydney Gateway is a major multi-modal transport infrastructure project comprising a motorway interchange, freight and passenger rail junctions and direct links to the Sydney Airport. There will not be a dull moment on this project.

The project will greatly improve the way we travel to Sydney Airport and Port Botany. It will strengthen Sydney’s position as a global city, by expanding and improving the existing road and freight rail networks.

The opportunity: Transport for NSW’s Sydney Gateway project will greatly improve the way we travel to Sydney Airport and Port Botany. It will strengthen Sydney’s position as a global city, by expanding and improving the existing road and freight rail network.

This a rare opportunity be involved in this iconic, once-in-a-generation project. The Sydney Gateway project team are looking for a Senior Project Engineer to play strategic roles in the Technical Team with direct involvement in management of infrastructure including time, cost, safety and quality.

What you will be involved in:

• Managing the design delivery of complex and highly technical infrastructure in a challenging environment
• Ensuring quality and safety requirements are managed effectively during the works
• Working with project stakeholders to ensure compliance with agreed strategies and forward planning
• Assist the team as required to effectively manage design issues as they arise and ensure agreed resolutions are implemented.
• Build strong working relationships with the D&C Contractor to ensure design activities progress efficiently
• Work within a matrix environment, contribute to the development of staff through mentoring and coaching.

About you: In addition to holding a relevant four year civil engineering degree, we are looking for someone with proven major infrastructure experience such as road projects..

Essentially, you don’t shy away from doing hard work or making difficult decisions. Some background in government will serve you well to understand our complex environment and customer focus, however this isn’t essential.

Most importantly, you are team player who is able to communicate effectively with stakeholders to approach various challenges as they arise.

Essential requirements

• A relevant four-year engineering (Civil or related) degree.
• Demonstrated understanding of road or traffic infrastructure construction or maintenance and quality management in project and/or contract control.
• Knowledge of the technical aspects of road design in brown field materials, equipment and techniques used in road and bridge works.
