About the role
As the Principal Drill and Blast Engineer, reporting to the Global Manager - Underground and Drill and Blast Technical Services, you will build and sustain organisational capability in the delivery of drill and blast outcomes, and maximise the value add of blasting activities to Thiess.
This role will see you apply your operational knowledge to assist Thiess projects in solving challenges and improving performance. You will be the business unit champion for the use and maintenance of drill and blast specific software. You will lead performance analysis and improvement projects across Thiess sites, including the development and review of operational and technical guidelines and procedures.
You will also be required to complete commercial and contractual work which will include the management of D&B related sub-contracts and providing tender support to the Thiess estimating team.
Regular site travel is a requirement of this role.
About you
- Degree qualified in mining or civil engineering, geology or a similar field
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience as a blasting professional
- Sound understanding of mining principles, design concepts and operations
- Significant domestic and international open-pit blasting experience in metalliferous and coal mining
- Experience in underground blasting also preferable
- Proven background in the management of improvement programmes to deliver value-add outcomes
- Strong business and financial acumen
