Development Manager, Transmission

  • Newly created opportunity where your expertise will shine through
  • Strategic position linking global Rio Tinto businesses to create value
  • Plan the route, drive change and provide direction

Rio Tinto has recently launched a dedicated team to deliver large renewable energy solutions across our major jurisdictions. Rio Tinto Energy Development is focusing on accelerating the development of future energy assets and securing high quality renewable energy development optionality. The team's focus on the provision of green energy will enable the decarbonisation of the company’s existing industrial operations and support Rio Tinto’s future growth

About the role

RTED has been established to support and accelerate the delivery of the Rio Tinto strategy. RTED will drive project delivery, with multiple renewable energy workstreams moving at pace. To advance Rio Tinto’s decarbonisation agenda, RTED will work closely with existing teams across our Product Groups and supporting functions to accelerate the delivery of renewables into the energy supply mix.

The Pilbara represents a naturally advantaged region for low-cost renewable energy, creating significant opportunities for Rio Tinto. Western Australia is one of RTED's core regions. The WA Renewable Development team will initially be focused on delivering 1 GW of renewable energy in the Pilbara with the intention to ultimately scale up to decarbonise our entire system in the Pilbara and provide further growth optionality. The team will develop a portfolio of wind and solar assets, with a dedicated focus on project delivery at a competitive pace and cost.

This role will see you making an impact as you manage and deliver the development of the transmission line infrastructure between the Greenfield Project Site and RTIO Network. This is a great opportunity for you to come on board, demonstrate collaboration and inclusion whilst setting up a significant part of the business.

Your ability to partner with the business and develop a sustainable and collaborative culture will make a credible mark in the organisation. Your ability to deliver to plan and spearhead initiatives is what will set you up for success, and your sense of team will truly make the difference.

Key skills include managing contracts commercially and technically ensuring we are translating best practice into business focussed solutions and commercially viable.

This position will manage the technical interfaces (Solar farm to Trans lines, trans line to RTIO network substation) and working with integration manager(s) and Engineering Manager to ensure successful integration.

If you have worked in a Project Management role where your communication and people skills were as important as your technical knowledge, then this could be the role for you. For this key position transmission line design and construction experience will be essential.

This is an excellent opportunity to make your mark in our business and really add value and bring a return on investment.
