About the role

Role Location: Junee, NSW

Role Type: Full time

The primary objective of the Train Driver position is to drive locomotives and operate trains safely and efficiently in accordance with QLRS, track access provider, regulator and siding owner rules and procedures. Duties include:

  • Fulfil train operations requirements in a timely, safe, efficient and punctual manner
  • Participate in training, briefing sessions and toolbox talks associated with safe and efficient train operations
  • Demonstrate and disseminate a positive safety culture throughout all levels of the business and operations
  • Comply with and promote the QLRS Safety Management System
  • Mentor and encourage training for trainee train drivers
  • Comply with procedures, work instructions, operating protocols and rules in order to deliver safe and efficient train operations
  • Ensure that the relevant persons are notified of all category A and B rail safety incidents in accordance with QLRS SMS
  • Mentor other train drivers and trainee train drivers in train handling and fuel conservation strategies
  • Conduct shunting and train inspections in accordance with company procedures and work instructions
  • Promote QLRS in all forums to raise the organisation's profile within industry
  • Encourage the process of a ‘just culture’ throughout the organisation

About you

  • Certificate in train operations and relevant AQF qualification from the current training package
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Clear and concise written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of safe working requirements on all routes, mainlines, terminals and sidings.
  • Work collaboratively and harmoniously as a part of a team
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to work in a demanding environment
  • Must be fit for work with a good level of fitness and general health
