With exponential growth already underway, we are currently inviting expressions of interest for the CopperString Project. Backed by a $5 billion investment, this is a once-in-a-generation project to rebuild our network backbone.
What is the CopperString Project?
CopperString 2032 is the largest ever economic development project in North Queensland, and one of the largest expansions to the power grid in Australia.
The CopperString project will build 840 kilometres of transmission line from just south of Townsville in the Burdekin region to Mount Isa with the highest voltage levels in the state.
This project will further unlock the renewable energy potential of this region.

As the Project Planner you will need to optimise project management time performance and control through supporting the Project Coordination Manager and key stakeholders with all aspects of planning, scheduling and resource management, in accordance with agreed project management methodologies, processes and tools.
And you’ll do it with down-to-earth people who you’re proud to work with and get to know. Here’s how:
- Support with the initial set up at proposal phase and revise schedule upon project approval, ensuring schedule structure and logic complies with Powerlink requirements.
- Liaise with discipline Lead Engineers, Project Engineers, Construction, Commissioning and Procurement Managers for input and updated status.
- Ensure that appropriate planning techniques and scheduling systems meet the project needs; establishing work priorities and defining manpower and other resource requirements to ensure overall schedule objectives are achieved.
- Manage the baselining of schedules upon project approval, and re-baselining in the case of revised project approvals.
- Perform critical path analysis to ensure key tasks are on track.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Business, Finance, Project Management or other related lessor qualification if coupled with significant experience within a project delivery environment.
- Qualifications in scheduling, earned value management or other relevant project management function.
We’d also love you to have:
- Experienced User of Primavera P6.
- Experience in using TILOS or similar software.
- Demonstrated significant experience in planning and scheduling large complex construction projects within a project delivery environment.
- Demonstrated experience and capability in project scheduling, including managing dependencies, resource assignments, baselining and critical path analysis.
- Demonstrated experience in earned value analysis, particularly with regards to Schedule Performance Index (SPI).
- Demonstrated ability in the use of key project management tools including Microsoft Project (2016 or later) and Project Server.
- High attention to detail, with excellent analytical skills and the ability to detect data inaccuracies and assess complex situations.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and an ability to liaise with a range of staff in a project control environment.
- Ability to operate effectively and flexibly in a team environment with limited supervision and a high degree of responsibility for individual outputs.

The Project Planner role will initially be based in Virginia but in the near future will be required to work from our CopperString project office based in Bowen Hills.
