About the role

Reporting to the Operations Superintendent, the Supervisor will lead our operations teams to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of the day-to-day terminal activities and ensure freight is made available to customers in full and on time. The supervisor will also be responsible for reviewing and planning line closures to ensure adequate labour and asset levels. This is a shift work position and the successful candidate will be required to be flexible.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead, supervise and direct employees in the execution of the operational activities
  • Ensure compliance to the operating standards by the terminal crews including contractors
  • Make available and ensure participation of employees in training, assessment, licensing and accreditation as necessary
  • Deliver the planned haulage services in full and on time and where possible with efficiencies
  • Deliver the planned terminal activities to ensure freight is made available in full and on and where possible with efficiencies
  • Deliver rollingstock to prescribed locations for planned maintenance in full and on time
  • Address out-of-course requests for additional services in a timely and flexible manner
  • Oversee, where authorised, contracted maintenance of the terminal facilities
  • Coordinate the stowing and un-stowing of rollingstock during planned and unplanned shutdowns including supervising shutdown activities
  • Rostering, asset management and maintenance scheduling.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong safety background and possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Transport / Logistics, Business Management or equivalent is preferred
  • Ability to achieve qualifications to assist in day-to-day operations such as shunt and examination, ATP (Automatic Train Protection) support
  • Exceptional frontline leadership abilities and demonstrated ability to develop effective teams, build positive culture and drive change
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high degree of initiative and flexibility
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Ability to apply business improvement thinking to operational activities
  • Ideally, sound operational experience and knowledge of locomotives or maintenance or planning
  • Ideally, strong applied knowledge of planned line haulage services
  • Strong safety and quality mindset and track record of driving improved performance
  • A proven track record for completing high value, high quality projects on time and to budget, while maintaining a safe outcome
  • Rail or Logistics experience and/or appropriate heavy industry experience.
