West Musgrave will be one of the world’s largest, lowest cost, lowest emissions copper-nickel projects.

Our West Musgrave nickel-copper project is located on Ngaanyatjarra country, in the Musgrave Province of Central Western Australia, and includes the Nebo and Babel nickel-copper deposits and the Succoth copper deposit.
West Musgrave, which has a 26-year mine life, will be an owner-operator mining operation and in addition to being powered by ~80 per cent renewable energy, the Project scope includes a pathway to net zero Scope 1 emissions by 2038.
The Role
The Project will feature an Autonomous Haulage System and remote operations from day one and our workforce will be a flexible, technology enabled team supported by remote operations to improve safety outcomes and maximise opportunities for flexible working and diverse participation.
Reporting to the Lead Resource Geologist, you bring the Mine Geology capability required to deliver the West Musgrave Project through Operational Readiness into Operations in support of BHPs’ growth strategy. You will collaborate with team members to increase the West Musgrave Project asset value by thinking and acting differently, embrace and foster innovation by looking for ‘out of the box’ solutions to achieve operational and technical success.
Based on your previous experiences, you will provide sound judgement in your evaluation of Mine Geology systems and processes with a focus on reducing complexity and keeping things simple. Your experience in Grade Control and working in base metal operations will put you in a perfect position to add significant value to the West Musgrave Project. You will play a key role in developing and strengthening a culture based on the How We Work Together (HWWT) principles and the West Musgrave We Care approach. We Care is a multilayered program through showing We Care at an individual (I), team (we) and community level (us), we aspire for OZ Minerals to earn a reputation as a place where people thrive. You will also communicate across the whole projects group, with local communities and Traditional Owners, supporting a transparent and proactive engagement strategy.
Initially based in our Perth or Adelaide office working 5:2 with flexibility to work from home, this role will transition into a site-based role within the next 12 months working an 8:6 roster.

The Senior Mine Geologist role will focus on ensuring the West Musgrave Project is safely delivered on time and on budget. Specifically, this role will:
- Help build a Mine Geology department including processes, systems and resources to support the Operation.
- Identify opportunities to add value through all steps of the Geology process.
- Development of safe work procedures, process flows, and an overarching Geological management plan.
- Maintain effective and accurate data processing and geological interpretation of geological data.
- Support compilation, regular update, and geological review of the grade control block model.
- Conducting reconciliations to track operational compliance to the performance of the schedule.
- Liaise with Mine Production personnel and drilling contractor to coordinate drilling activities in the open pit environment.
- Provide technical and management support for the site management team.
- Contribute to short and long-term planning.
- Consistent communications to key stakeholders with respect to geological grade, model, and plan predictive performance.
- Mentor and train Mine Geologists and Technicians.
- Management of Geological database.
Applicant Requirements:
This role requires a self-motivated, hands on and values-based individual with a desire to deliver best practice outcomes with skills, experience, and personal attributes including:
- Underground qualifications in earth sciences (geology, geophysics).
- A seasoned leader with experience in Open Pit or Underground Mining.
- Experience in the effective application of Grade Control systems in an operational environment including Mine to Mill.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver and drive safe geology practices.
- Experience using geology related software such as Maptek, Vulcan, Data-Mine or similar.
- Highly analytical with exceptional problem solving and project management skills.
- Experience working in a remote role, on a rotating roster and operating in an environment with remote operations control.
- A high level of cultural awareness, and ability to impact and install a genuine We Care culture in the safety space.
- Confident to bring new ways of thinking to old problems, challenge the status quote for a future modern mine site.
