Are you ready?

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Property, you will be responsible for delivery of the workplace strategy, including planning, design and implementation for Optus’ corporate workplaces across Australia. You will adopt current workplace trends, tools and technologies, address current and future needs of Optus’ people in the creation of highly functional workplaces designed to drive organisational productivity, an envious employee experience and to enhance the Optus culture.

We are keen to learn about your deep understanding in portfolio and project management, as well as in space / occupancy planning that will drive and deliver exceptional corporate accommodation outcomes for our amazing people.

Key responsibilities …

  • Oversight of the corporate property portfolio, including planning and delivery of a programme of works within available budget and aligned to the organisation’s strategy and workplace design principles;
  • Responsibility for leading internal and external project resources in delivering the capital works programme which will include new build, interior fit-out, churn and miscellaneous workplace project;
  • Develop the Optus Workplace Design Standard and a supporting framework to ensure consistency with strategic objectives and brand, including as strategy and brand evolve over time;
  • Drive corporate value through the workplace strategy including development of new initiatives and innovative workplace solutions to align to and drive the company values, brand, culture and objectives;
  • Work closely with the Real Estate and Facilities Management functions in relation to acquisition and disposal of owned and leased premises across the portfolio; &
  • Oversee the Space Planning function including occupancy data capture, analytics and reporting to develop and implement space planning strategies that will support Optus’s business units to deliver on their key KPIs and ultimately enable every Optus employee to perform their best.


Additionally, your role requires excellent communication and influencing skills, and will, at times, be required to interact with and present to Singtel Management and Procurement Committees, Optus ELT, Finance and key business units.

You will drive and deliver exceptional workplace outcomes aligned with the Optus Property Strategy across a large and diverse property portfolio comprising of:

  • 19 corporate sites nationally incorporating call centres and 24/7 Network Management Centres;
  • Largest single office tenancy/office campus in Australia at 84,000sqm;
  • 250,000sqm of leased corporate & technical premises; &
  • Retail sites including ~150 x Yes Optus owned company stores.


About you...

You will have superior business acumen and financial skills, as well as a proven ability to develop and maintain relationships with landlords (ranging from private individuals to institutional landlords) and property professional services providers in order to manage the best financial, legal and risk outcome for the company. You will also have top-flight negotiation skills required for dealing with a wide variety of suppliers, consultants and regulatory authorities such as local councils and state planning authorities.

Further ingredients for success ...

  • Tertiary qualifications in Architecture, Interior Design, Building/ Construction Management, with post-graduate studies advantageous;
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant working experience with strong knowledge and understanding in corporate real estate involving workspace planning, office design/ construction, procurement and project management functions;
  • Experience working a large corporate arena managing a diverse selection of customers, vendors and employees;
  • Highly proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Project, etc.), with familiarity with workplace software e.g. Serraview advantageous;
  • Corporate real estate SME involving workspace planning, office design/ construction, procurement and project management functions;
  • Solid commercial acumen and experience in contract management and vendor negotiations, plus advanced skills in development and presentation of business cases;
  • Analytical, decisive, able to effectively prioritise, meet deadlines and multi-task, highly motivated, excels under pressure; &
  • Excellent internal and external stakeholder management expertise, with solid experience influencing and presenting to senior management and Board level executives.
